I find earlier eras of drugs which have fallen out of popular usage to be fascinating.
In the early 1900s drugs like Opium, both by itself and in Laudanum tinctures were really popular and so was the original Coca-Cola which of course included Cocaine.
This was also the period where Absinthe was very popular, as well as Morphine, Nitrous, and Cocaine in general and Snuff tobacco was also very popular I think around this time.
I've always wondered if anyone knew what the exact recipes/formulas were for making Coca-Cola how it was made when it was first created (not sure what year) or the Laudanum tinctures.
First of all, with Coca-Cola, I've long believed that maybe the entire term "Cola" came from the usage of Kola nuts as the source for caffeine in the original coke.
Does anyone know if this is true?
I think it would be really cool to know exactly how the original coke with Cocaine in it was made and I'm interested in knowing if anyone has ever tried to make it or tasted it before?
Likewise, Laudanum tinctures of Opium are something I've NEVER heard of anyone using in this day and age and I'm curious about how they were made and if anyone's ever tried to make one of those either.
