Anyone ever had lasting mental issues from psychedelics.

So I was just wondering if anyone's had any extended mental issues from taking psyches. How long did you experience these issues and what did you do to make it back to what you would call normality??? I could use some tips.

I've had PTSD from 2c-i overdose (of around 150mg) that lasted about 2 years or so. 4-HO-MET (when i was ready to face my fears) helped me overcome my acquired phobia of psychedelics.

To be clear:
I still do not have a desire to do psychedelics but I do not fear them anymore.

Drink plenty of clean water, eat well [eggs, bananas, mango, orange/grapefruit juice, mixed nuts, whole grain oatmeal, sardines, and multinutrient and fish oil supplements is my diet these days - very cheap diet too], get plenty of sleep, abstain from further substance use, and get involved in some hobbies. My personal favorite hobbies are sailing my boat and swimming laps at the public pool. Good luck.

Not really.

Also, if you are a number person, I can say that before taking these drugs I had a measured IQ of 143, while afterwards it was measured as 114. The area that was most effected was "executive functioning."

143 is very high and a drop of almost 30 points would be tantamount to the average person becoming clinically retarded. Was this an online test or was it official?

Both were performed by a neuropsychologist. Well, two different neuropsychologists but they were the same test. My psychiatrist blames it on the bipolar disorder, but i think they may have also renormalized the test in between when I took them, as they were 10 years apart.

Not sure if you feel comfortable talking about them, but what sort of issues are you experiencing, Gmo?

Most people will say that there is none but, in laymans terms I am definatley a lot more spacey since taking psychedelics, I also have very mild HPPD. These are not 'mentaal disorders' so to say but they are definate mental handicaps. I feel like I can not think or use cognitive functions as quick as I did before ut a loot of this is probably just paranoia. Most of these things do not stop me from doing anything and its not like im really really slow or anything. If as I occasionally do, worry about them though the symptoms get worse and it occasionally makes me feel like im losing my mind if I have been really stressed with real world issues but, its nothing serious. Just minor symptoms exagerated by paranoia.

So to answer, I believe they can and they definatley can cause 'mental issues' in people with pre-exisiting mental conditions / genes but for the most part you are safe. People like to argue that psychedelics are 100% safe and thats mostly true if used sparingly and with respect but people forget, they are still psycoactive substances and not a mystical gateway to other worlds, though it definatley does something along those lines. In my experience most psycoactive substances no matter how you use them are bad, if used in moderation the negatives might not show but theres always risks.

I believe psychedelics can definatley make people feel strange and weird for upto years afterwards but this isn't you going insane, your just paranoid and translate it in a negative way. They can have after effects/glows that never really leave for your whole life, its all a consequence of that usually pretty intense life experience youve probably had a good few times.

Not sure if you feel comfortable talking about them, but what sort of issues are you experiencing, Gmo?

The main thing is Depersonalization. I had two bad trips back to back in like November of 2010, like a year and a half ago, and I developed Depersonalzation like 7 months afterwards, so I've had that coming up on a year now. I've got HPPD, but it used to be a lot worse and it really doesn't bother me, I actually kind of like it now......it's basically just this 24/7 dissociation that I wanna get rid of......and the resulting anxiety. I've been on what I would call "recovery" for like the past 3 months or so and I'm just trying to speed the process along is all. But yea I've got a decent amount of anxiety and DP.

I've been doing psychedelics every couple months for about a year and a half now. I forsure feel "different", but not in a bad way. I would say I have a bit of derealization but it doesn't affect my life too muh and I don't think it's a "lasting mental issue".

I was psychotic for 3 weeks after an acid trip. That being said, I did take it after a day of alcohol, mdma, amphetamines, 2ce/2cd and cannabis. It might have happened from the cid alone, it may not have. I'll never know. I do know I am never touching another psychedelic drug again. My sanity is too important to risk.

i feel different now that iv took a bunch of psychedelics but in a positive way, i also feel like im going through depersonalization but iv learned how to work with it.

i have been using them for 4 years now, i generally trip every 2 weeks sometimes more and ill break a month every now and then a couple times a year.

iv done a bunch of high dose lsd, mushrooms, 2ce, 2ci, mdma, i also smoke high quality cannabis daily and the occasional hash.

i definitley dont feel dumb or crazy, i actually feel that im more sane than ALOT of other individuals who dont use any psychedelics at all.

i got on a healthy diet and started doing yoga and meditation/breathing teks when i started to feel major depersonalization and those seem to help me out alot, they have reduced stress and paranoia, i also can control my thoughts more along with my emotions, also keeping yourself busy is good.

you really just gotta give your self time and work through it

Negative:
- During a rather intense trip I realised how bad my social anxiety had got and how it was eating away at my life, prior to that realisation I was in a state of blissful ignorance to the fact, and that really shook me up, it was a big burden, and hard to battle.

Positive:
- When I had my first taste of aMT, I sat down with my friend (also tripping) and talked about my anxiety, got it all out in the open and discussed ways of dealing with it. Those ways then allowed me to beat my anxiety and move on with my life :)

Moral of the story:
Look after yourself. Psychedelics give you somewhat of a projection of your internal thoughts and needs, and if you've already attended to everything, your trips will be smooth and leave you satisfied - but if you've left issues without dealing with them, then they can come back to kick your ass, and psychedelics can give you a hard time for them. Looking after yourself also goes for being responsible, you don't have to trip all the time to reap the rewards, you should always eat, drink and sleep healthily etc, especially around the times of the trips. :)

Yeah, these sorts of posts usually attract people who have experienced issues so I don’t know if this will be any use. I can only speak for myself but I started using psychedelics over 20 years ago and I can’t say I have ever had any problems mentally. I have a few theories on why some people have problems and some don’t.

1. Maybe some people are simply predisposed to mental issues and psychedelics help bring them out. I always felt very comfortable in the psychedelic space. Perhaps some people have a brain chemistry / mindset more congenial to psychedelics.

2. 90% of my psychedelic usage was mushrooms. It may be possible that some psychedelics are safer mentally then others.

3. I never really went for the super large doses. In 20 years I don’t think I ever took more than 6 dried grams, and more often it was 3-4 dried grams.

4. I didn’t start psychedelics until I was almost 20. I wonder if many of the people experiencing problems started younger.

Just some ideas.

The main 'mental issue' I have noted is that my respect for people who regularly consume alcohol and alcohol in general has steeply dropped.

Also, after a ~700 seed Morning Glory trip I noticed lingering 'after-image' CEV(but not that different than ones experienced whilst sober) Also just an overall bodily hangover for like almost a week.

Most people are going to say they haven't had any mental issues. And I do believe for most people that is the case. But since you are asking if there is anyone out of the ordinary who had mental issues, I shall throw my two cents in. Taking the 2c-x's and 4-aco-dmt exacerbated symptoms of a psychiatric disorder of mine that we are still trying to diagnose.

This is a disturbing one particularly. As many people online disagree but with street/social/local talk 2cs are blamed heavily here for educing the sorts of psychedelic related psychosis that LSD wouldn't. Unfortunately, everyone who claims that or who suffers it has taken LSD themselves prior, so you never know. They just seem to be able to push it that little big further and I think it's particularly with the ones who carry a slight stimulant side.

As always, I believe many confused HPPD with perception alteration due to psychedelics. As we will see in this thread.

Many issues I've seen have cleared up, but take a long amount of time. In most scenarios to entirely go away it also requires the person to go 100% sober, not even alcohol or grass. But these are the scenarios that built up over time and were not stopped when they could have been. If you get in quick, it's likely to be short lasting. If you leave them and they keep banging the psychedelics answer to OPs question is yes they will leave long lasting mental issues.

I have noticed that after having an amazing ++++ on 30mg of 4-aco-DMT, I since have taken similar doses of 4 substituted tryptamines and I don't trip as hard and like 4 hours in I feel like the world is ending :/

welll, if your just looking for negative "mental issues" taking MDMA 2 weekends in a row then tripping on mescaline gave me some memory issues....I'm pretty sure. My days sort of run together now, I frequently look at texts i've just sent because I forget what I just said. Although I've been cutting down on my cannabis intake and that is actually helping my short term what? (I also just reread this because i forgot what i wrote, but im also high after a long day at work) I'm hopefull the memory thing Isn't permanent, it just seems like before drugs it was much easier to recall memories, but now its like my mind is clouded.

Also a friend of mine stupidly took way too much mescaline over a 3-4 day period and was loopy (running down the street naked weeks after his trip) until he got admitted to a hospital and took some drugs (he wont tell me what the were :/) that finally snapped him out of it MONTHS out from the trip...Drugs are a powerful thing my friend.
