Any vegetarians out there?

I just wanted to pipe in here and say that mehms theory of evolutionary biology and enzymology has some merit. If we look at teh consumption of milk as a standard and look back in time to the first domestication of cows and how we had no enzmyes to break down this source of food we did however grow these enzymes over time. if you look at the percentages per country of how many people are lactose intolerant you see evidence to suggest that the cultures that cultivated dairy producing animals first are the ones with the least amount of resistance to breaking down lactic acids from dairy.

So to say that his ancestrial heritage comes from a culture whose main staple of a diet was meat and thats how enzyme whise his body reacts possitively to has merit. It deserves further study. I come from a sicilian culture as well as a spanish and mexican culture, meat was an ajunct function to daily meals in the form of fish or low amounts of meat, and i seem to have adapted to my veganism no problem, my protean levels are unusually high how i process nutrients also seems to be unusual as i dont neccisarily balace my diet but as far as all tests go im in excellent health.

I think ill do some research on this one.

would taking a multivitamin like Centrum account for the variant lost?

No...if anything you are probably earting less calories..I bet this is why you are feeling hungry..IMO multivitamins are not very good but thats just me..I wouldnt go so far as to tell someone else not to take them, but I dont take one. I dont often have problems with anemia but if I experiance particularly heavy blood loss or something I just take a lil iron supplement for a few days.

If you are eating fruits and veggies you should be getting vitamins, at least as much as you were getting from the diet you were eating before. If I were you Id concentrate on protiens, and getting enough of the right kinds of fat (as well as overall calories of course). Both fat and protien digest slowly and keep you feeling full longer because they help stabilize your blood sugar.

I think certain body types definately take to vegetarianism easier than others, but I do believe anyone can do it. I never feel hungry from being vegetarian any more than I did before, and I eat plenty. I dont really get any meat cravings either. But I eat extremely healthy compared to most people.

^^^^ so do you come here often? How the hell are you. I was squinting at your name trying to figure out if you were dejavue clarivoyant and i think you are. pm me with an update on your life.

notdeja: you are vegetarian, right? That tells me that you digest animal proteins easily and do in fact fit into my theory :) (same goes for cubehead) Have you ever gone completely vegan?

Also, I was vegan about 2 years and felt hungry constantly. I also looked pale and had dwindling energy....I was eating about 2500 calories a day of good whole foods. When I started eating meat, everyone I know told me that I looked much better (not pale and sickly looking). To complete the circle...I'm danish, english, irish, scottish, and german.

Please don't get me wrong....I completely support conscious diets and wish everyone considered what they were eating. Every time I eat anything, I reflect on the process that brought it to my plate and thank it for nourishing me.

Also, don't believe everything that PETA tells you about the inefficiency and torturous conditions of ALL meat production, because it's simply not true. Raising a cow on an acre of pasture takes almost no fertilizer/water inputs and is good for the soil. An acre of land crops (corn, etc.) takes a huge amount of water/fertilizer and depletes the soil. But now I'm ranting.

p.s. sorry if i'm off base with my assumptions.

The majority of American-raised farm animals do not live like this.

And what do you suppose those cows eat? More corn than it would take to feed directly to the human.. (energy loss in the food chain).. therefore more corn is needed, and it is more damaging.

Reality & perspective, sir.

its called grass fed meat/dairy and its very common. I'll be raising my own pretty soon anyways :)

I applaud your efforts!

Nope not completely vegan. I dont drink milk, but I do occasionally eat eggs and I do eat cottage cheese and yoghurt.

I've been vegetarian all my life... my mom said as a lil kid I HATED meat and never ate it, I'm the only one in my family that does not like meat. I also don't drink milk or eat eggs plain, but will have dairy products and stuff with egg in it (like cheese, cake, ice cream)

I'll weigh in with my anecdote.
going vegan, I noticed no real change in health or level of energy.
I lost 5 lb, but gained them back.
I eat more by volume, which, by way of simply avoiding being uncomfortably full, translates to eating more often.

My heritage is, in rough order of proportion:
Irish
French
German
English
Scandanavian
Indigenous American (~1/16).

ebola

I find I have to eat a lot more, and I stay full a lot less. My body has remained relatively the same since the switch, except that my colon seems a lot more happier, and I've been sick 1/10 the amount as in the past since I've seriously cut down on dairy/eggs.

Heritage (desc. amounts):

German
Italian
Scotch-Irish
French?

this is a fallacy cows that are raised for meat are not used for leather. They grow specifically cows for production of leather.

I think you've been reading too much PETA propaganda. Raising cows for leather alone would produce insanely expensive leather; the meat is the real core economic product. You can be sure that whatever your leather came off of, the rest of the animal ended up in the food chain to meet the demands for meat.

interesting heritages stagnant and ebola. kind of discredits my thinking a bit...

I've got a good natured joke for all of you.

Q: How many vegans does it take to screw in a light bulb?

A: I'M BETTER THAN YOU!!!

;) ;) ;)

peace

Not really.
2 or 3 anecdotes isn't enough to draw a conclusion.

Agreed. Gelatin, leather, suede, and other by-products are largely excessive parts of the animal that would be otherwise thrown out. Instead, they are usually cheap filler material that are marketed.

If you're concerned with decreasing animal deaths in the industry, this is the last thing to be worried with. And if you're like Mehme, you're already a part of the change in spirit. :) So obstaining from leather will hardly compare in effort.

i will effectively renege on my statment before. Im unsure where i heard that fact from but upon further research i cannot find any source that agrees with what i said, not even from peta. Also just for posterity sake im not the biggest fan of peta and there super models who are vegan except for chicken or fish. lol. sorry again to falsly state something without conclusive proof.
