Hi there. I've searched the site and found no answers so hear it goes again. I IV'd a roxicodone the other day and while pushing I experienced a Searing Hot Pain that caused me to stop and try another site. This too hurt but I pushed through. Now since yesterday and today (about 3 days later) I have a big painful reddish (a touch warm) bump above the actual injection site. So its located sort of by the bicep and My arm is also totally sore; can't straighten it out at all without serious pain. I plan on going to see my dr but was wondering if anyone had any insight on this? Could It be an abscess or cellulitis? I was just in the hospital about one month ago for 3 days with cellulitis cause I injected into my foot (BIG MISTAKE).

Thanks if anyone has had a similar experience please share.

Yes that definitelyvsound like an abscess with those symptoms presented. If im not mistaken its referred as a 'sterile abscess'. But dont let the name fool you as it has the potential to turn rather ugly.

Great choice in seeing your dr. Youre likely to go through a course of anti-biotics to kill the infection. Make sure to follow the fulll instructions as its useless to the cause if you dont strictly follow it.

Best of luck and please let us onow the results when possible :)

Stay safe!

This IV shit is totally not for me! It seems every time I do a shot something goes terribly wrong and I wind up at the dr or the ER. I like it but really I'm getting into too much trouble for it to really be worth it. It's gotta be strictly a special occasion which I don't have a lot of.

Keep the feedback coming please. ID like to hear more of your experiences

Thanks!

If you think you have an abscess get to your GP. They are fucking nasty things and if present the sooner you starting pumping anti-b's into your system the better. Always better to get it checked out that to avoid knowing the problem.

Sounds like you are missing your shots... are you registering blood before you inject? Using sterile equipment?

You shouldn't feel any pain when injecting.

Check out the IV Megathread in my signature. There's a lot there about complications from injecting.

Yea I've read the whole IV mega thread several times. I seem to get a little bit of blood then the syringe usually gets clogged up. When I draw back I usually don't get anything cause the plunger always bounces back! So only sometimes I get a lot of blood on the drawback. I figure if I get that one droplet I must be in the vein or else why do I get that tiny bit of blood. The are a lot of times I can feel the liquid coursing around in there and like I said the other day I got a searing hot burn like the needle was on fire!! I have a lot of the hard little bumps under the skin too.
So basically - am I missing like every shot?

Yeah it sounds like it.

Getting only a little drop of blood doesn't mean you are in a vein. That's usually a sign that you pierced through it. You should be able to draw back on the plunger and get a steady stream of blood into the barrel. You're saying it's getting clogged? What gauge needle are you using and are you micron filtering your pills? Maybe the actual solution is too thick.

Like I said, if there is any pain when injecting, you are missing or injecting into an artery which is even worse.

Yea I gotcha ya. I use cotton filter and always check to see if there is anything on the needle. I use 28 g 1/2 inch, new each time. It's annoying because that drop usually plugs up the needle so the plunger bounces back when I drawback. After a few tries I usually give up and push where the little drop came in. However, I have gotten the stream of blood and it doesn't hurt at all. Question: why does it hurt so bad - the pain feels like a pulled muscle and I can't straighten my arm. Can the 1/2 needle go Into to a muscle?
Thanks for your input Mr. Scagnattie ;)

It hurts because your basically pushing acid into the tissue surrounding your vein.

Ugh. I go in as flush to the skin as I can. It seems I hardly ever get that nice stream and I always get little hard bumps at the site. I'm sure this is cause I'm missing. Question : when I get a nice stream (still leaves a hard bump though?) and then go back to that spot another time why does it not work again? It seems you can't use the same place twice cause I never get the same results when I go back to a "working" area.
Thanks for all your input!

BY THE WAY - my original problem has healed thank god. I took some antibiotics and it cleared up within a day. Phew. So glad it wasn't an Abcess :)

If you are getting any kind of lump or swelling you are missing, maybe not the whole shot but some of it. As to why it doesn't work again it's because the vein is buried underneath swollen tissue.

With correct technique, IV'ing shouldn't hurt at all when depressing the plunger, and all that should be left on your skin is a tiny red dot. That's it.

That's on the big side for syringes since 29 gauge is the biggest I would ever go, but personally I use 30-31 gauge syringes. 28 gauge is especially big since you are only using a cotton filter so you are able to draw up some of the solid fillers from the roxicodone pills, and then they clog up the rig on their way out. The other issue with that size rig is the bigger bruises they leave behind. I can still hit all of my main veins since I use small syringes both is gauge and length (I use 5/16 inch). The shorter length also helps prevent me from piercing through the vein, and from damaging it from trying to keep it in one spot while it's partially in. With the 5/16 I can go all the way in which helps with leverage so it's not moving around once it's in, which helps prevent some of the damage to my veins that would occur from trying to keep a 1/2 in rig partially in so it doesn't go too far in.

Ok yes tommy boy. You said it all - between you and Scag every issue I have has been addressed. Thanks for the input and ill put this info to good safe use.
