Any readers of A Game of Thrones series?

This is by far my favorite series of all time! I hope someone else reads it. I read the first book after a hurricane when I had no power. I had to read by candle light, but it was awesome because this book made the fact that I had no PC or TV tolerable.

If there is anyone else who reads this series, I'm sure you know his 5th book is late late late! I'm curious what other things you read that are similar? I am trying to find something else to read, but everything else seems so much more boring than this series.

hello lysis, would you mind giving a brief synopsis of the book. I have a copy of it and am on the fence about reading it. looks like a monster of a tale though.

Well...his books get longer and it's been a while since I read the first one, but here goes.. Also, something to remember is that he does not stick with the same characters, he has no problem killing main characters off, and his vision keeps changing with each book. The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th books are completely different from each other and the first but they are equally as intriguing. I'd say the 4th book was probably my least favorite because he didn't include some of my favorite characters (he mentioned they will come back in book 5).

The story is a tale of kingdoms at war. The first book is not like that, but the ending throws the kingdoms into war (I don't want to ruin the ending for you, so I'll leave it at that.

The setting is medieval-esque, but there is magick and dragons in the book. Not so much as you'd expect. It's about 90% old style, medieval type setting.

There's a few different stories and about 5-8 characters he follows. The first book follows the Stark family - the king, queen, and their 5(?) kids. It also centers around an unanswered connection between the kids and the wolf pups they find in the forest.

The king travels to the south to visit his friend king and to figure out why the former hand of the king died. He is with the southern king's son who is this bratty, selfish, and cruel boy. He also brings his 2 daughters with him who become a major topic in all the other books. One of his daughters is set to marry Joffrey (the evil son), and the other daughter is a tomboy who is smart but disliked.

When King Stark arrives at the southern kingdom, he finds that there is corruption and all kinds of conspiracy surrounding his friend. Most of it centers towards the queen, but his friend won't listen to anything that degrades his son or his queen. So, he is put into the middle of some deadly corruption.

It's an awesome read. My friend, who isn't into magick and dragons and stuff like that, loves this book. She is the one who got me into it. I read the entire first book in 2-3 days. I couldn't put it down!
