All my friends used to go on and on about the joys of smoking after pills, but I did try it when I still smoked a little and it just took over and then I was feeling too bent, and not E-ing at all anymore. So it didn't do anything for me and I didn't bother after that.
But I'm just "a minority in a minority in a minority" (from Chasing Amy, love that movie, even if it does get a bit mushy (and that's emotionally mushy, nothing to do with mushrooms

i only smoked weed once after pinging, and yeah it was great. Hash + weed. I was hallucinating, seeing flowers and all sorts of shit changin in front of my eyes and thought the chick from Portishead was talking to me when I was listenin to some track on this tape.
oh yeah, raves are fucked. ravers are fucked. no offense, your all nice people, but wearing jumpsuits, using medic, and all that jazz makes you look so stupid. the music is fucked as well, these dj's dont know how to spin after listenin to real DJ's like Q-bert and shit. and most of the ravers dont know shit about pills, all they can do is E-Z test them and yeah it has to be good. i even had a very good friend of mine, who is on this board, who had a white 69 and thought pretty highly of it. Not exactly the best, but you know, better then decent. But then he read on here how it was a bunk pill, and how it doesnt register on the e-z test, and has now totally turned his back on me, givin me a bad rep and saying they are shit. Fuck you, you know who you are, you dont diss peoples gear if you want them to be a hookup. motherfucker.
I met White Smoke, Primus and some other guy. They were all cool, no disrespect to you guys, you looked like normal folk just out to have fun, not wearing fucking stupid apparel or fucking stupid accessories.
I dont think i am going raving in a long time...

to get as drug fucked as possible, and then dance horribly to some of the worst music around. I wouldnt complain as much if the DJ's could actually MIX, but yeah, there you go.
even if you dont go drug fucked, theres no atmosphere at a rave. theres no substance. its just people either half dead, or acting like dickheads. sure there are some good people in there, but thats the minority.

Kind of the opposite of any rave I've been to. But I'm selective. And no offense but I know what to select.
At raves I've seen some excellent DJs, with excellent skills, and sometimes really good vinyl.
The atmosphere is fucking fantastic, the people are almost entirely friendly and nice. There's hardly even any dickheads worried about what people look like when they dance.

you shouldn't be making judgements and generalisations like that. If your raving experience is that bad, its either your fault or you've only been to one or two raves and thats not enough to make no fucking judgements like you've done.
the severity of this post is influenced somewhat by my described situation, heh, normally I don't pull johnboys.
Also influenced by the fact that I've had some excellent times at raves, some of the best. And I wouldn't want anyone to read what you wrote and get turned off attending a ravel.
So the severity does serve some purpose other than to vent my frustration

rikidozan, you're spot on about some of the people who go to raves, and about some of the raves, but you're generalising way too much.
I really don't think that applies to the people here. Sure there's a crap load of talk about drugs, but that's where this place started i think. Take a good look around and you'll see it's not all about drugs and getting off your head.
But that's the reason I havn't been to a "rave" in a while. I have been out plenty, but when I have it's been somewhere where a really good DJ/live act is playing. Sure some of them aren't spectacular, but some are awesome.
The Advent on friday night was great, the best techno live act. (You might call that night a "rave" but the crowd was nice and smallish, all there cos they knew what music they like, good music) Juan Atkins a while ago was pretty good, then going back further there's the likes of Adam Beyer, Marco Carolla, Gaetek, the Platipus crew, etc.
All great acts in their own way.

Raves are awesome. usually an awesome crowd, great music (dont forget that music is an individual thing, Q-bert can mix, but does he play good music? perhaps in your eyes, but not in mine)
Oh, and if I got bunk pills off you i'd be pissed off as well. good on your friend for getting shitty if they tested bunk.
Stop whining and do something positive. Remember kids: be proactive, not reactive.
 
how the hell did I advertise myself as being a pill dealer. i'm not the DEALER, im just covering for someone who is my friend who deals to both of us.
maybe it was just a fucked up rave, but yeah, Q-Bert is the world's best DJ, and hip-hop dj's are much better in general then any rave dj's.
I dont like the music obviously, but it shouldnt matter when I'm fucked up. It usually doesnt. I just couldnt get into the groove since there was no atmosphere (unlike some clubs) and yeah, it was just fucked.
people at raves are friendly because they are on a e naturally, but they can still act like dickheads.

some hip-hop DJs have good skills, there are some damn good scratchers. Not that it is at all possible to compare DJs from such completely different genres, but... I believe (note I do not boldly state my opinion as fact. This tends to be a little more receptive to discussion, and the expression of opinions other than my own)

I believe that overall DJs of the dance genre are of a higher quality, they can do more with their music, and tend to have to be able to mix as close to perfectly as possible, due to the higher complexity of the music. Hip-hop DJs tend to play a certain rythm which they enjoy and don't have such an importance on timing as their beats are less complex.
Thats what I believe.
And my vote for the worlds greatest DJ, being the best imo of those that I have heard; the D&B and a little Jungle master DJ Hype.
P.S. how many bluelighters would prefer a hip-hop crowd to a ravel crowd?

ok, this is comletely off topic, but I think it is an interesting point.
I'm not much of a fan of hip-hop, but I can appreciate it. Now as pope said, they are completely different forms of music (think classical and jazz) so they both require different skills. I have seen Q-bert scratch. He is awesome, no doubting that, but Will-E-Tell is just as good in my eyes. Its not just about mixing 2 tracks together, it is about tension and release and building the crowd and so-forth.
To appreciate a great dj, whicheva style, I think you need to see some really godamn awful dj's. I know this is a bad thing to say but you can really tell the difference.
Both styles require different skills. I bet Q-bert couldnt get a crowd pumping with minimal techers jus like I think Will-E couldnt impress those hip-hop bad asses.
Each to thier own I say, but you cant dis a certain style of music on the grounds that you don't like it. Appreciate it and dislike it, but dont say its crap and the crowds are crap, because thats just being arrogant and pretentious. Anyway, thats my .2c worth!!

I generally don't give a shit about looks, who the hell looks stupid and what bloody music is playing when I am out clubbing. I am out there for a "GOOD TIME" and to have fun with my friends and people I do not know. Caring, sharing, being silly, getting dressed up and having a lot of FUN doing it are what I am all about dude. Thats my 'atmosphere'.
Variety is the spice of life dude, it is the same with music. A bit of hip hop here, breakbeat there, deep house over there and trance to the side. Each has good and bad tunes within. Just do not make sweeping generalizations for the rest of us.
And PS try this....
Next time your at a so called "rave" just stand in the middle of the dance floor and smile your tits off. See the infection grow in front of you and spread throughout the crowd. Strangers come up and hug you dude, homies and hos. Sweeeetttt.
