any new insights into this GHB rat study 16 years later?

A mere 15 days of low dose GHB killed 60% of the neurons in a certain region of the hippocampus?!? That sounds profound. Even the "neuroprotective" dose saw 38% reduction of the number of neurons in that area.

And contrary to what I've seen in discussions about this study, rats do have endogenous GHB and GHB receptors.

Sooooo...what's the deal? It's just rats and has no relevance to humans?

Why is the low dose neurotoxic 10 mg/ Kg. vs the 100 mg/ Kg dose.
Which is not named non neurotoxic and it will evt become.
as it concentration reaches 10 mg/ Kg. To me that seems logical.

Read this before low doses being more neurotoxic. then a big one.
Bigger dose hittin also the GABA-b or the GHB receptor better ?
Lets assume Rats and Humans equal, a 650 mg dose would be neurotoxic.
Compared to 6500 mg. Which will drop to 650 evt ? I am 65 Kg.

Xyrem, Pharmaceutical GHB is taken nightly two doses of 4500 mg.
Have these people neurological damage, would be a good follow up study.

It's speculated that at the 10mg/kg dose it's mostly the GHB receptor being activated, causing some sort of excitatory response which is the reason for the neurotoxicity, but the greater GABAb receptor activation at 100mg/kg causes an inhibitory response that offsets it. I don't really know, though. I have no background in neuroscience.

To get a roughly equivalent human dose, you have to divide by 6.2, so 10mg/kg for a rat is roughly equivalent to 1.6mg/kg for a human (which for you would be ~100mg dose). This is due to differences in metabolism. Again, it's is just something I've heard.

But, ignoring the 10mg/kg dose, doesn't the 100mg/kg dose still strike you as being profoundly neurtoxic? In just 15 days at that dose there was a 9% reduction in the number of neurons in the prefrontal cortex.

Yeah even taking a larger dose will drop to that level evt.
Is it still neurotoxine too in such a case ?
No humans take 100 mg doses but its scary,
but my brain was more damaged by life then drugs.

So dr s, employers and all that working people and wives.
That s what i feel. Maybe what a scan would reveal after my death

Low doses are stimulating, high doses sedating.
But when a high dose after 4 hour is metablized largely,
your wakend as if you had a Caffein injection.
Is that maybe caused by no more activation of the GABA-b receptor.
And the action on only the GHB receptor,
the 'so called' Dopamine rush ?

Wonder about Narcoleptics who take it daily/ 2 times.
Would be a nice follow up on this.
