Any Motivation Boosters/Improvers Available?

At the moment I am unaware of any motivation improvers out there besides 5-HTP which isn't really for motivation as much as it is for mood swings and depression.

As most post smokers, I have problems with motivation (it seems like motivation is more of a side effect than memory and learning performance at least in my case).

1. What (if any) motivation improvers/boosters are available on the market (both herbal and synthetic as well as vitamins & minerals)?

2. What have been the experiences of people who have tried these things?

There is a lot of controversy over claims that cannabis causes "amotivational syndrome". Some claim it produces a legitimate, diagnosable psychiatric condition while others maintain that it is just a byproduct of the cognitive deficits of being intoxicated (or however you want to term the experience/effects) and there are still other viewpoints as well.

There is such a strong enmeshment of mental health issues and substance use so the situation remains very grey and subjective. Some say pot causes amotivational syndrome and others say that people smoke pot to self-medicate their depression (which when clinically significant often produces many of the same symptoms as 'Amotivational Syndrome'). The fact is that some people become depressed and apathetic after smoking pot for a length of time; some smoke pot to cope with/medicate/relieve/dull, etc. whatever form their distress takes.

Other people who smoke pot were not depressed before they started nor after prolonged use and don't ever lose their motivation. I've smoked pot regularly off and on for years and sometimes I worried that I was losing motivation but in retrospect I think those were more likely periods of depression... I think it was easier to blame the pot then face aspects of life that were painful and people (drug users especially) can and will rationalize and convince themselves of anything to continue what they have become accustomed to.

So... of course ideally you would honestly look at the situation to find out what exactly is causing the lack of motivation and if problematic enough, stop smoking pot.

If on the other hand regardless of everything else you are still going to use, provigil is an interesting drug so you may want to look at that or related compounds. Its relatively benign psychologically and physically if you take care of yourself. It has many advantages that amphetamines provide for concentration and motivation without many of their more undesirable side effects. I would not recommend taking another unnecessary medication/drug to counter the side effects of your primary unnecessary drug but that's your choice and you'd be better off with something like modafinil (provigil) than dextroamphetamine or something.

Not a bad joke .

What works for me is only smoking pot when u know you have no work or anything to do for the rest of the day .
Also cut down on ur weed usage .

And also ive been trynna do the same thing as you ( improve motivation) and I found that taking adderall no more than 2 times a week helps accomplish tasks .

Do all this and i think u will find ur motivation going uppp

It depends motivation for what. If you want motivation to commit suicide, then plenty of drugs will achieve that.

Otherwise DHEA.

What about DHEA? What exactly does this do and is it better than the B vitamins? I'd like to know since I'm getting off Bupe soon and will need something for motivation.

DHEA is a good mood-enchancer if you testosterone level is not already high. Note that it works in women as well. Google it.

...most of the BL population are relatively young.
Indeed. Are there statistics about this the mods could make public? I read a newspaper article about the fact that some sub-population of addicts tended to be over 40 these days. I don't remember the recommended age for DHEA but it's a substance about which so much has been written. Trying it out for oneself is the best. It's cheap and available in most countries. You take one capsule for a week. If it doesn't work by then, stop.

There has been a lot written about the use of Provigil to increase alertness. I believe there are similar compounds, all controlled.

I personally find DHEA to be quite an interesting substance and am interested in trying it myself, perhaps when I can afford it. I will let you guys know whether it has had a perceived effect on me. There are various nootropics I would also like to try. Apparently the effectiveness of this class of drugs is highly variable, depending on the individual biochemistry of an individual and you must find an effective one only through trial and error.

You guys ever heard of a 'me too drug'? Provigil is a 'me too drug' in relation to modafinil.

what about nuvigil or provigil? i find a good motivational boost from nuvigil (armodafinil), more alertness (but not in a jittery speeded out way), and a mild mood lift. It's not a every day thing, and you have to be careful about taking them too late in the day, but it may help your motivation....

Very interesting. I find these modafinil-type drugs to be very promising. They seem to be a great improvement on caffeine but not as harsh as amphetamine-type drugs, which seems to be a great compromise IMO.

I haven't tried them, but have heard they have no recreational value. That doesn't mean they are not abused.

Provigil, Vigil, Nuvigil = same active molecule = modafinil either racemic or as a pure isomer. No difference. It's a stay-awake drug.

steroids are great for motivation, and surprisingly opaite withdrawal. I suggest a 6 week cycle of cypionate and deca.

DHEA works for me too, I'm under 30 (not much though lol). Otherwise my money would be on Provigil and related substances. Tramadol also works but is not something you want to use everyday. I also suggest B complex, DA precursors like L-phenelalanine (I think), theanine and tyrosine, my friend had very good results from those (he is a daily smoker), they are amino acids. Amphetamine / ATS's are the most motivating but should not really be used if you can help it. If you are disciplined enough to use tiny doses I would consider them. As mentioned anabolic steroids will also work, but come with an extensive side effects profile especially if you aren't excercising hard.

the nuvigil doesn't seem to be recreational, but it definitely made me stay AWAKE for a good 20 hours or so the first time I took it ((which was at 6 PM, BTW))

Plus side, it's not dirty or speedy feeling--I guess this could be a downside too..lol.

DHEA has no effect on motivation. Supposedly it can have anti-depressant properties due to its action as sigma-agonist. Yes, it is neurosteroid, but i found no effect on motivation. High doses can be anxiogenic.

I have tried doses up to 200mg. It also little effect on testosterone unless dosed high...

It also has two chances to aromatize to estrogen, which is not a good thing....
