besides the allmighty, coveted, mysterious will power. Does anyone have any tips, methods, etc on quitting the needle habit? its haunting me::!

I really dont know as I switched from my 4 year IV heroin habit, to a IV suboxone maintanence.

My adive would be to start shooting up only saline solution, or anything that will have NO effect on you, and after a while you will stop associating the needle with pleasure and euphoria.

Thats just a random idea. Probably wouldnt work for most people.

hahah the coveted mysterious will power. wish i had a hook up for that.

I think actually that the idea of shooting just water would probably help. Im pretty sure these days i love heroin just because i associate it with not feeling like dying.

I reccomend starting a suboxone plan, even though you can still IV it...

...because IV'ing suboxone really doesnt give that much more effect than snorting or sublingual(well maybe more than sublingual which is only like 55% BA)...therefore once you get use to the IV suboxone and not using other opiates for a while, you can just start snorting the sub or SL...and it will feel the same so it wont be that hard to make the change.

Yea, I drop the needle routinely and never use it more than one day a month.

The key is buying drugs with high oral bioavailability and only using H and morphine at the end of the month once.....eventually it just wont be worth going to buy needles again

thanks guys apreciate it...i know ive been given some subutex actually too try and detox and just ended up shootin them with no high at all...just to shoot them.....the water idea actually soinds good thanks kingasoul

I've managed to do it after leaving town for a good solid month, such as taking a vacation somewhere far away. When I came back I just didn't chat with people who using the needle.

So far its worked, its been two months and I havn't thought about going back.

I'm still IVing so you can take my advice with a grain of salt... but....

heroin use (not IVing it) was worse for me than IVing buprenorphine. I can understand that's not a common experience for users...

As for tips to quit...

Taper down as comfortably but swiftly as possible, and switch to snorting/smoking your powder/tar, and then get some benzos/Suboxone/Subutex/antihistamines to help out the withdrawal.

For me, I am planning on tapering down to a minuscule amount of buprenorphine (some people may say I am already there lol), and then eventually switch out the buprenorphine for another active ingredient that I have a lot more ability to quit easily.

I started Methadone. Its been great. I know it will half ass suck coming off my dose. To be honest with you though you're going to end up hooked on one or the other. Might as well do the done if needles are in your life. Its the only way you can forget about doing it. I would never give my methadone up for any opiates/oids. No amount could do for me what my mmt dose does everyday. = )
