Benzos Any legal medicine for anxiety?

Hi, I have really bad anxiety. I am addicted to lorazepam, but take the script as scripted, but it stopped helping a long time ago once I built a tolerance.

Are there any natural supplaments or over the counter drugs that I can safely use when anxiety becomes unbearable? I know benadryl (diphenhydramine) but it makes me depressed and stupid whenever I take it. I don't want to make my benzo tolerance worse by taking more.

Smoking weed helps a lot, but I have to stop for a drug test. I am trying to work through the causes of my anxiety, but that is going to take a while.

I was just wondering if you guys had any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I know Valerian Root (sold in CVS/Walgreens/Health Stores i believe) is recommended for anxiety/sleeplessness (see: Fight Club =-)

Sorry to hear about your tolerance. Bummer =(

I luckily haven't suffered from anxiety for about 10 years but recently was curious about this stuff called "Drank" it's a perfectly legal combo of Valerian and other stuff. They don't sell it near me but i took a trip to AC/Philly/Maryland/West Virginia a few weeks ago and scored some cans.

For me (no benzo tolerance) 1/2 can while tired had me FLAT OUT in less than a half an hour. Also, it feels just like a gentle natural tired, not like a chemical uber tired floaty drugged up tired. Though maybe you're used to/fond of that feeling at this point. The next day i drank the other half can (because i'm a fucking idiot and was like derr this isn't what made me pass out at 11pm while on vacation last night) and was half-nodding through my poker tournament in the morning.

I was amazed that an OTC beverage could pack a wallop like that. Get your hands on some if you can. Heh, wow, i should also say that i'm not affiliated w/the company in any way and will collect no royalties from my endorsement =D

Ok, I will for sure check that out. What do you think of Valerian root? I have used melatonin to sleep occasionally and have found that in small doses it works great.

I don't like the floaty drugged up tired feeling, I just like a feeling of calmness, without being all sweaty and stressed out for no reason.

i tried that exact same drink and its shit imo. I got a really strong sugar rush since it has over 45 g of sugar in the can. If anything, you get a super strong suger rush, then pass out from coming down off the sugar. I've taken valerian root many times and I couldn't feel any effects after downing a whole can. I'm assuming its the melatonin that is making you pass out. If that's the case, it would be much smarter to just buy a melatonin supplement.

I drank a whole can and it didn't do shit. :\

But for natural remedies, your kind SOL. You already have benzo's, can't really go much higher then that.

You could try Phenibut, Kratom (just don't get addicted), Valerian Root, Passion Flower, Kava.

I've tried all the above, and the only thing that really helps me is Benzo's or Kratom.

I've done valerian root and kava kava for insomnia/anxiety and both work pretty well, but the dreams are crazy. You sleep well, but get ready for some vivid dreams!

i agree with you, i have tried plenty of "natural vitamins" and none seems to work besides benzos. the couple natural vitamins that ive tried was gaba and mixchex. and thehy both didnt work. i eventally decided to get on lexapro and it has helped me so much i had to take ti wth xanax of course but i dont even take as much xanax as i used to now that im on the lexapro. i know how people have there opinions of antidepressants but i honestly think that lexapro has helped me as far as my anxiety. i was crippled i couldnt leav emy house for months because of my anxiety. but im good now! try the gaba or the minchex. another thing i heard that helped alot better that those vitamins was L-theanine but its expensive

Be careful with Phenibut as tolerance builds fast and using too much will leave you feeling like shit for a good day and a half or two.

The first time I used it, it knocked me out for about 14 hours and I was physically and mentally out of it for another 2 days and felt like crap.

Nothing will work quickly and as effectively as a Benzo, but there are some fairly potent herbal blends out there in the form of tinctures and capsules that when combined properly can definitely help with anxiety.

Try checking out your local herb store and ask them for stress relieving herbal formulations. They usually contain Kava and Valerian, among other things like Skullcap, Blue Vervain, Californial Poppy, etc.

^
That's what I was going to say (go to a store with all the herbal remidies(sp?) and ask them).

Or the best solution ever: A big warm Thai peanut curry (seriously do it!!!!). I could be all tweaky and energetic after that about as much as I could after taking a mg of xanax. But it feels way better than xanax. Yeah. tell us how it goes!

Well, SSRI's are "legal" and they seem to do a pretty good job in cranking down anxiety. Also, your anxiety may just be drug induced or PAWs.

I have been on celexa for about 6 months now and my anxiety is severely lowered. Well, I have also been sober from all substances for six months as well so that may have a thing to do with it =/

I could mention many: kava kava, passionflower but i'm gonna say what i personally find to help VERY well is taking a walk in a natural surrounding.

When somebody first told me that i thought 'yeah like hell, i've been super anxious before & i think a damn walk could give me a heart attack'--- but recently i was having what i'd call moderate anxiety, it certainly wasn't mild but not panic attack style either, went for a walk & felt no anxiety. When i sat down the anxiety returned, but somehow just keeping moving CAN eliminate anxiety imo & believe it CAN work for you too!

I would definitely recommend kava.

Mulungu might work as well, don't dose too high though or it will knock you down.

Valerian I've heard some good things about.

Be aware that many of these are theorized to work on GABA, so if you have a benzodiazepine tolerance their effects may be diminished.

Buspar (prescription) is supposed to be good for general anxiety.

I was on benzos for about two years. One thing helped when I quit was lots of running and exercise. Another thing that helped was to take a sortof ritualistic interest in the simple things I was doing, instead of trying to rush through them like they are burdens. So, like, shaving, cooking, brewing tea, putting on moisturizer, I take them as enjoyable things to focus on.

Melatonin and 5htp help a bit also.

I was also thinking of valerian root, I noticed my hppd/anxiety calmed down a bit when I tried it. 5Htp I have heard can also. Help.

But seriously just exercise and eat right. Getting your mind off of it is the best way. Obsessing over the need to take something for your anxiety is just making it worse.

I know anxiety disorders are real but I believe most people just use it as there justification to take drugs. Anxiety is a natural part of human life, you could always just deal with it if what you really want is long term improvement.

Hi, I am at work so I need to keep this short. Thanks for all the replies and I will look into it.

I have started playing basketball for several hours a day and it has helped a lot. I will reply again when I have been able to look into everyone's suggestions more.

Thanks a ton.

i would try kava. apparently you don't build tolerance, there's no w/d, and its as effective as any benzo. i have some on order now.

Nothing out there is going to come close to touching benzo's, especially if you've been taking benzos for a good period of time.

If you were looking for something more "gray market" you could try to find some gabapentin online, supposedly it works well for anxiety and it isn't scheduled in the US (yet).

Also, phenibut works okay if you use it once in a while in a hearty dosage. It mostly just makes me tired though.

As far as herbal remedies are concerned, I have no experience in that area.

Gabapentin is your best bet

I find KANNA (Sceletium tortuosum), helps me way more than anything. I dont use it anymore though, I use Xanax because my anxiety has been effecting me for YEARS, its some mental and phsyical anxiety and unfortunatly the legal remedies just dont do it anymore...BUT

If you take it as directed you will receive feelings of empathy and when you have empathy for other people your anxiety seems to remove itself, you think about things more (without anxious thoughts, more in depth, why are things like this when they could be this much better type thoughts)

I would reccomend KANNA, I loved it when I first was on it, and no side effects, and multiple way of ingestion. I actually found it in a health food store in bottles with instructions, but thats not usual, it was some mom and pop health food store....I let them know about the product cuz they had no clue what it was.
