Any idea what happened?

Hi everyone, this is my first post so I apologize if I am doing this incorrectly or posting this in the wrong place. I had some molly that I got this week after searching for months. Appearance wise, it was a fine white powder but completely sparkly with that "crystalline shimmer". Tested with Mecke, Marquis, and Simons, the correct color change for MDMA occurred for each in less than 2-3 seconds and I did not observe any other "side reactions" or different color changes indicating the sample was cut to shit.
I split the gram into three equal piles and my friend and I split one of the piles, so our dose was approximately 140mg-165mg (I know it is a horrible idea to eyeball but I've not been able to find a decent milligram scale). I weigh about 135 lbs. While taking it, I thought it was much too bitter and at that point began worrying it was extremely cut. Even if the sample were relatively pure, this should have been enough for us to roll (zero tolerance for both of us).
We left to a music event and felt the usual come up effects. Over an hour passed, no roll. After searching for MDMA for so long, we were both devastated realizing what was happening, I'm sure many people on here know the feeling. At this point we were so frustrated with wasting all of our money and time that we returned to my place to redose. I knew even at the time this was a bad idea, but that's what happened. We both took another 220-250 mg and less than a quarter of the gram remained, figuring if this were indeed real MDMA this should definitely be enough to roll.
45 minutes to an hour later, I started getting very distinct visuals. At this point I thought oh God, it's cut to shit with DXM. :X Now after having the visuals for a couple of minutes, my friend and I started to roll at exactly the same time! We were both incredibly excited. Here's the thing... no more quickly than the roll came on, it was gone for both of us in literally less than 4 minutes, I would guess it lasted about three minutes. :?:? It came and left for both of us at exactly the same moment even though he weighs at least 30 lbs more than I do and we took the same amount. Absolutely one of the most bizarre things I have ever experienced, and like a total slap in the face. Honestly, how is it possible for this to even happen? The roll did not return, and I felt pretty much like shit and "out of it" for the rest of the night, I also didn't experience any more visuals after the roll came and went. No trouble sleeping really after a few hours and felt fine the next day
At this point, I am ready to give up on MDMA and am beginning to think that rolling is something that will never happen again for me. I have taken "ecstasy" at least ten times and only rolled one time. That one time was by far the best drug experience I've ever had, so that's why I've put up with so much trying to find MDMA again. I thought purchasing a test kit would prevent this sort of thing, but what is the point of even testing if a sample can be completely cut to hell and still indicate the correct results? I am dumbfounded at what happened last night, and definitely tired of wasting hundreds of dollars trying to recapture what I experienced the one time I rolled.
I would much appreciate any feedback from anyone who has had a similar experience or has any advice to offer about all the things I am doing wrong. Is it possible that the sample contained no MDMA yet somehow managed to fool the reagents? Did we just not take nearly enough at the initial dose? The one time I did roll, I took probably about 280-300 mg at the initial dose because the sample looked really cut. I have heard that rolling is not possible if enough MDMA is not taken at the initial dose, and after this happens you cannot roll that night no matter how much is taken. (I thought this last night and still redosed, I know - very dumb.) I really think the people in my state and a lot of other states who "do MDMA" have absolutely no idea what rolling is. Everyone here who gets molly seems to say stuff like "yeah, I take about three dips for the initial dose, then do another dip every half hour or so!" I think they are experiencing the effects that occur way below the amount required to roll.
My friend still has a gram of it but really we're both kind of tired of trying at this point, as amazing as an MDMA roll is. Any advice on how I can use MDMA more correctly to increase chances of rolling again? I am so confused.8( Thanks everyone. By the way I am on no medications, no other drugs besides marijuana, no MDMA tolerance. Sorry for the length of this post.

I forgot to add that the test results were not watery at all. Very solid, dark, and instant color changes with the "initial color" appearing instantly and turning to the "final color" in less than two seconds.

The first thing that comes to mind is that what you had may have been very diluted with an inactive cut. It doesn't take much MDMA to reveal a solid reaction. Inactive cuts in Molly are quite common. A test kit wouldn't tell you how diluted it is though, a GC/MS machine would be the only way to tell that.

Thanks Snafu. You're most likely correct. So just to clear this up, a sample can contain an extremely miniscule amount of MDMA and still provide a solid, quick, and non-watery color change? Does anyone know the approximate minimal amount of MDMA a gram could contain to still fool the test kit?

Dmytray, so if an entire gram of "molly" contains only 2mg of MDMA and the rest is an inactive cut, testing said molly will turn the whole drop black? Or you're saying that is the amount that will cause the reaction if say I'm testing a small 3mg sample, it needs to contain 2mg of MDMA for the reaction? The amounts I tested were far less than 2mg, I tested only 6-7 very small granules for each test, is this incorrect?
