any harm from smokin with alumiminum foil..?

i know this is way after the fact, but in case anyone reads this - solder is VERY dangerous. It has warnings all over the label because it contains lead. You shouldn't be handling it on a regular basis let alone putting it near your mouth/smoking out of something made with it.

PS: i find that duct tape and hot glue work for almost any bong-making purpose. :)

A "slide bowl" is just a bowl that has a stem coming off the bottom of it so you can stick it in the opening of a bong and have the smoke go through the water.

Don't use tin foil either, if you can find it. Tin has a very low melting point and you can inhail bits of it, at least that's what I've heard. Pretty much, if you have to use something not meant for smoking, use part of a pop can to make a bowl. It's not all that great either, but it won't burn like foil.

i always thought tin foil and aluminum foil were the same thing....?

use loif (foil) only for smoking pure grade ice crystal (this is the only time i use loif, the other being if i had me a nice one piece glass straight pipe. Other than ice(or maybe H)....i guess u can pretty much use loif for anything. Tip: we clean it out when we straighten it out with toothpaste. Dab a little paste onto tissue and wipe the opaque side (put on a wall, or flat surface) and ull see all the dirt that comess of. This is if ur not lazy and u want agood taste.

The "dirt" is not dirt but oxidized AL. Rubbing the foil with toothpaste will not decrease the health risk. If anything it will add toothpaste to the list of unwanted chemicals being smoked. It may also turn black from Al being polished by the finely ground pumice thats added to help clean your teeth.

Instead of relying on hearsay and educated guesses I checked into it myself.

After heating a 1.5 inch section of foil one minute with a butane lighter, the AL was still pliable and only had carbon residue from the butane. It did not give off any heavy smoke or vapors that could be seen or smelt.

With another identicle section of AL foil I rubbed a small (1/8th inch) bead of toothpaste onto the foil. It made the toothpaste turn grey and a dark grey/black residue on the towel. This was expected and looked the same as any other finely ground metal, including AL. I cleaned and wiped all the visible toothpaste off. When heated the treated foil gave off a visible white smoke and unpleasant odor. There was some burnt residue on the top side of the foil and carbon from the butane on the bottom.

I don't think anyone should use toothpaste to "clean" the foil. It's fine as it is. Use it if you want to or not. It's not going to be as bad for you as current thought says it is. It will not melt at the temperatures a lighter creates. It is relatively stable and will only oxidize when exposed to water or a humid environment.

AL is not lead, so why such prejudice? Have you ever watched someone hit an AL peice and drop dead? Who smokes from AL foil so often that they run the risk of chronic exposure?

Use it or not.
