Is it possible to be content with one's life and be an opiate addict at the same time?
Lets assume the source of drugs is secure and reliable.
I guess the issues would be the mental anguish cuased by the fact that you know you are dependent on foreign substance to make it through the day. The physical side effects(constipation, lethargy, lack of energy to get out and get shit done). Just something i was curious about. When i was hooked on the Oramorphs i never was quite down with the scene.

if the supply was endless and free, for sure. since thats not the case, then no.

yeah, i think that if the supply was reliable and the gear all nice and clean then the negative effects would be considerably reduced.

However, they'd still be the feeling that you weren't really taking part in life as many others do but I'm sure that, to some people, this would be pretty much a non-issue. I know that I've always been a bit of a loner and so the periods of general detachment are more of a welcome break than a state to fear. I know I'd still be very aware of the fact that I was on a very different path to the majority and that relationships are harder to stabilise(sp?) when one of you is dependant on a quite mind altering narcotic. The scenario of being with another addict is always very alluring but you know you're in for some very rocky and down right difficult moments as a direct result. That said, my last relationship was riddled with dependance issues and it was, at points, one of the most beautiful yet fragile times of my life. Been nearly a year now and it's only recently that I've been able to really accept the fact of it being over due to the need to detach from the pure physical addiction mixed in with the emotional aspect so closely intertwined.

So, in conclusion, I dont' know; unless I was able to test the theory of having said perfect supply scenario (god I wish) I can't say whether there's a possibility of being a happy opiate addict - although the hope that you can be will take a lot of getting rid of ;)

1st of all i dont know wat oramorphs are, second if i were to have a life time's amount of any : oxycontin, fentanyl, methadone, h, morphine but even better if i could have all those drugs in other words like u said OPIATE/opioids addicts. And if i could aslo have unlimited control of dose adjustment then YES OF COURSE U COULD BE A HAPPY OPIATE ADDICT. You WOULD be HAPPY!

but such situation is extremely rare unless u urself are a physician or doctor who can prescribe them for yourself

wouldnt this be a good question for a MMT patient? since Methadone's always gonna get to the addict because of it's legality and cheapness, i wanna hear some input from the MMT people.
but in my opinion, i guess a lot of the time during my habitual life, i'm always worried about my dosiing and making sure ill have enough left for next time i'm bored/sick. but i find even on the days where i have just stocked up that there's still a lingering feeling in my head that things just aren't right...i mean i could have just railed an oc80 and feel a little rushing, but still i'm like, "man, is this really what i was looking for...?"

i have two incredible connections, and i'm not happy that i'm on opiate/opioids all of the time. i am a MMT patient, and take 150mg/day of methadone. it's starting to bug me, and i'm looking at the future, and trying to figure out what i want to do about this. the other connection is a pharmacy where i can buy anything (CII, CIII, CIV, CV, whatever) at any time. I buy uppers, downers, give away norcos to friends by the handful, etc.

none of that matters though. any time something/someone else has their/its hands around your throat, how in the fuck can you be happy? you're not living your life freely. it's not YOUR (read: MY) life anymore. and i fucking hate that.

i'm incredibly successful in business, so money's not a problem. i have girls that come up to me all of the time and start conversations, hand me phone numbers, etc. i have the coolest kid in the world, and he's well mannered and brilliant. but, i have this THING wrapped around my throat, and it's called addiction. i will be sick if i stop taking these drugs, even if i taper it probably won't be pleasant.

my answer is no.

if opiates weren't addictive, or if there was a way to stop them without withdrawals, then i would give this question more consideration. but, the way opiates take control of a person, i just don't see how anyone could consider themselves happy if they are addicted.

imo.

it wouldnt be about being addicted anymore cause it would be a totally new way. the thought of not ever being able to stop wouldnt be an issue anymore because why bother.. like know what i mean.. it contradicts itself lol addiction isnt neccessarily bad depending on how your able to handle it.. and this is one of the very few rare situations where what your addicted to (opiates) are so harmless (not entirely without harm) to me it seems as though its the cure to humanity, but they wont alow it to be. but then that goes to a whole nother level of our humanity/societies very being/existing that most couldnt comprehend to even try to concieve a world where everyone was always on as much opiates as they wanted whenever they wanted. woooo.. maybe in the next life :)

anywayss..

keep this in mind as well.. just a little tidbit/quote, i read on bluelight here sometime ago...

To our surprise we have not been able to locate even
one scientific study on the proved harmful effects of addiction"
Dr George H Stephenson
University of British Columbia, 1956

i'm on MMT, and although i'm only 6 months into it, i like it. though i'd rather just be addicted to whatever opiates i wanted whenever i wanted for the same cost as the methadone or less even.. which brings me back to the original post .. opiates for everyone always yah!

is it just coincidence that a drug has so many positive uses and so little health risk and is so insanely addictive.. how much more clear does the message have to be ya know lol
its easy for me to say though cause i'm stuck on paxil now.. if i'd have found opiates first i wouldnt have been on paxil. for me paxil withdrawls seem worse than opiate. one or the other or both or all of em, addiction shmiction, pump me full of everything ya got as long as i'm happy and content between wake and sleep. better living through chemistry :)

That's the whole thing....if opiates were like weed where people could just take it or leave it, I think there wouldn't be nearly as much negative stigma associated with them..

I myself try to find the positives in all areas of life, including my addiction.....Of course there are gonna be periods of depression, sickness, worthlessness......But That's life, isn't it????? If you expect to be happy ALL the time, addicted or not, you're living in a fantasy world anyway.......I don't know, I guess I could say that I'm overall happiest when I'm clean, but I DO love opiates, so for now, I'm not gonna dwell on it.....Just take one day at a time.....Easy Does it......Semper Fi.......Carpe Diem....Oh shit sorry, I just started rattling off bumper stickers....;)

depression, sickness, worthlessness, etc. .. thats life isnt it?
but what if not? and you could just be happy all the time, that simply. fantasy becomes reality. whats reality anyway right.. its all in your own perception. and it also comes back to what makes each individual happy. for myself if money and supply wasnt an issue, opiates then being just as important as oxygen, would have me on a level "fantasy like" enough that id definitely take it in a heartbeat over normal living. then again forever is a long time.. who knows what i't be like 30 years down the road. id give it a go though anyway, again, in a heartbeat

Happiness in single use, but never addiction. Thats why at some point I decided to bite the bullet, come down, and enjoy it once every two-three months. Honestly though I cannot see being happy while addicted to ANYTHING. Upon the final days of withdrawls, at least the most severe I felt a great weight off of my shoulders; it was like no other feeling I had ever had in my life.

IT'S ALL GOOD IN MODERATION

then simply - addiction isnt neccessarily bad

my brains still burnt out from last night

Just took my morning dose.... I'm pretty fucking happy.;)

But when you don't have that morning dose, are you happy? Probably not.

I'm an opiate addict and I can firmly say that I'm really not that happy of a guy. When I was clean and off heroin/oxy/dilaudid, I was much happier. but the cravings for dope were very intense.

Ugh, I dunno. The life of a dope head... It's not it's all cracked up to what its supposed to be. :\
Sure, a night fat shot of oxycodone or heroin, or hydromorphone, mmmmm hydromorphone is unbelieable. Your worries just melt away. But then you comedown. And theres no drugs, no money, no friends... It's a love/hate relationship.

Vico, that's a very good question. Yes, but the synthetic sense of well-being is not there (and I do not underestimate the destructive force of removing that false sense of well-being). It is a pill induced illusion that I enjoy very much, but never fully. I have terrible anxiety problems, insomnia, and depression (and have been in therapy on and off for over 10years). I know this temporary heightened sense of calm can not last. The addiction will turn ugly and become unmanagable. I am happy in the sense that i have a good job as a writer & prof., that I have a long term relationship (she doesn't use), and that I have a good social circle with 1 or 2 firends I consider family. I know that my continued use will destroy all of this. The real pain would be the harm that I could cause to those that love me. Eventually this drug hibernation will have to end. I have been taking 60-70mg of hydrocodone every day for nearly 5 months now, and before that I used 40mg daily for two years. Either the use ends or the real, actual things in my life that make me happy end. I know that. But, I am afraid of life without opiates.... almost as if I can't remember what life was like before using (and I haven't been using that long, relatively). I am happy, but not truly happy. In reality, I'm just getting by... and that feels terrible. (By the way, I know my use is far below many people's use on BL, some may not even consider my use a problem, but my dosage is not the point.... my dependence is).

batailleseyes - if you don't mind my stating so, you sound like an ideal candidate for buprenorphine or methadone. It sounds like you may well benefit from the stabilization that a long acting opioid has to offer. I have a bit of personal experience here, I am a heroin addict who is now on methadone maintenance, so I suggest this with a bit of first hand knowledge.

Baitail...i am kind of in the same boat as you. 30 mg a day of oramorph (morphine sulfate). I was on it for about 14 months and then stopped once the tolerance went up and i was not willing to up the dose. The withdrawls weren't bad at all. I stopped for like 3 months, taking a Methadone dose once a week from a friend who would share her weekend take home with me. I finally got bored to tears sitting at home alone, especially during the winter when it's dark at like 5 PM. Nothing to do. So i finally got back on the Oramorh and have been doing it for like 2 months. I try to skip a day twice a week if possible, just to stay "honest".
ANyway, i would NOT get into the methadone at all. From what i've heard it's pretty much all or nothing with methadoen. I don't think you're in deep enough with the amount of pills you take to be thinking about methadone. Once you start with it you are pretty much slepping with that dame for the rest of your life.

If I am using strong opiate (heroin) I am happy 90% of the time, the other 10% is when I am out or need to cop.

Yea, addictions has its ups and downs but to me its more of a love affair, I love it and I hate it. I would trade anything for my dope head days, some of the best times of my life. Everything in life is not all peaches and cream all the time, its life. If your life is addiction and you can afford a habit and steady supply and enjoy it, all the more power to you. It does wear you down mentally not to mention physically but thats the price you pay when you play the game.
