"If we could sniff or swallow something that would, for five or six hours each day, abolish our solitude as individuals, atone us with our fellows in a glowing exaltation of affection and make life in all its aspects seem not only worth living, but divinely beautiful and significant, and if this heavenly, world-transfiguring drug were of such a kind that we could wake up next morning with a clear head and an undamaged constitution - then, it seems to me, all our problems (and not merely the one small problem of discovering a novel pleasure) would be wholly solved and earth would become paradise."

anything new drugs that seem like they might fit the bill?

I'm interested in knowing this too

+1

I remember seeing a video on TED that's sort of similar. I'll try and dig it up.

i think huxley was talking about mescaline though.

I think rather he was referring to a non-existant wonder-drug. A drug with nothing but positive effects. A fantasy for the fiend. He may have been (most likely) inspired by his own experience with Aleister Crowley and mescaline.
What inspired "The Doors of Perception".

In "Brave New World" he writes about "Soma", a drug intended to appease the daily suffering of the lower and middle class, with seemingly no ill-effect.

In his novel Island he refers to "Moksha" which is apparently the ideal psychedelic that fits that bill perfectly.

I was always wondering whether he had a specific chemical in mind. It sounded like mescaline to me and I believe he referred to the dosage as 400mg at one point so that fits as well. I also remember him saying that the Moksha was grown but I could be mistaken.

I think it isn't an imaginary psychedelic but that just about any of the really good classic psychs (mushrooms, LSD, mescaline, etc) will serve this purpose.

am i the only one who thinks that this kind of thing would not be one drug but several drugs? everybody responds differently to chemicals, so theres no one drug fits all equation. what one person might want from a withdrawal free opiate, another person might desire from a psychedelic or a slightly more managable meth.

however i do think the basic premise of future drug development will be not more drugs, but better drugs.

If it's about mescaline, this further increases my interest towards the drug, having found LSD not really being my deal and considering 2C-E the closest to what is described in the starting post. 2C-E for me - at least - has almost always given the kind of tranquility, where nothing feels purpolessless and where all things tend to fall in a harmony; The natural course of universe becomes very clear and easy to comprehense.

However, I'd imagine this kind of a perfect drug impossible to exist since I consider world to be made up from polarities; Negative moments help to understand the positive ones and positive ones give courage and creativity to transcend ever higher.

New insights create new worries and problems.

Dude; Totally :)

If there's one that I can see making a big sweep in the oral, long-ish lasting, deep trip category that's the one I see making a big impression as soon as it becomes more well known.

It's one of my tops for sure. I have 3 fighting for that top position; LSD, mescaline and 4-AcO-DMT.

I could easily see 4-AcO-DMT being the next big psychedelic wonderdrug. It's incredibly deep like mushrooms but much smoother and much easier on the body. It's like combining the ease and smoothness of LSD (maybe even smoother than LSD) and the depth of mushrooms.

LSD imo. fuck the illegality of it, its such a beautiful chemical. MDA looks like it could be that way if it wasnt neurotoxic and tolerance, mdma fits that imo but isnt much of a psychedelic at all

Corporate Trash TV... the only negative effect... being really ignorant

LSD fits the bill. Alls drugs (specifically psychadelics) do is amplify a beings true personality, even if it's hiding from the world. So no drug will get rid of the assholes..........there is always going to be assholes

I would say MDMA, except he had to include this part... "we could wake up next morning with a clear head and an undamaged constitution"

I know many won't agree, but low-dose shrooms(less than an eigth, I suppose) has always felt like what mdma wishes it could for me, as well as what I believed mdma to be like before ever trying it. Mushrooms pretty much fits the bill perfectly with what huxley wrote, 4acodmt is also something that fits perfectly from my experiences.

Damn I wish i could try some 4-aco-dmt...unfortunately all my dealers are like "huh? what's that?" when i ask if they know where to get it haha
