I really like benzos when I had a prescription for them. However, I was afraid of experiencing w/d so I stopped taking them.
They are a miracle drug for me, it helps me with motivation and do more things in the day that I need to do, greatly helps
with sleep and occasional anxiety. I don't care about using it for recreational purposes, I just like the way it
handles these problems for me.

The only thing I want to know, is there a less harmful prescription out there that I can consult my doctor about?
Something that works similar to a benzo that I can take daily with less side effects?

Thanks!!

its not prescription but has very similar effects to that of benzos..Phenibut is the name..

combo of clonidine (blood pressure med) and vistaril (antihistamine and anti anxiety). Them together has been a GREAT replacement for benzos for me.
I was on 5mg Clonazepam/day for quite some time.

Yes, Phenibut in higher doses feels like Alprazolam for a good 20 hours for me. YMMV. I have used Flunitrazepam, Clonazepam, Phenazepam, Alprazolam to name a few -- just pointing that out in general to qualify my experiences to make the comparison.

It will rip your motor skills to shreds in such a dose also, so be prepared.

phenbut will not do what benzos do for you. I have tried it. It can help with sleep though unless you mean phenobarbital I may be spelling it wrong. thats a barbiturate. If it works for you don't change anything... trust me the worst things happened to me when I fixed things that did not need to be fixed.

Many anti-depressants have been shown to be as effective as, or superior to, benzos in the treatment of anxiety. And they are tolerated much better and don't generally cause cognitive impairment. Some anti-depressants are more sedating and thus generally more effective with anxiety - paxil, amitryptaline and avanza are some examples.

There's also natural stuff like kava and valerian root which some people swear by. Personally I don't think that things like these could ever touch a person who has been using benzos. They're also often 'unclean' feeling despite being 'natural', because they're not selective and contain alot of stuff. Further, doctors and psychiatrists can't really manage this stuff so treatment can become difficult. And kava is a drug of abuse anyway.

Gabapentin, Lyrica, Zanaflex, or Ambien are good alternatives. Although Ambien has more hallucinogenic properties IME

Personally, I have found neurontin(gabapentin) to work wonders for general anxiety, and they also help during opioid withdrawal. I still am prescribed klonopin and use xanax periodically, but dont' really abuse it. As for valerian, which someone mentioned, I think it IS a great OTC herbal remedy for anxiety/sleep problems. I have been using benzos for 7 years, and valerian still works wonders in a high enough dose. I have also noticed that quality varies from brand to brand of valerian, so you may need to try a few different sources. But it's cheap, and works great. You could also ask your doctor abotu Lyrica, which is related to neurontin, but stronger and more effective apparently.

I know anti-depressants work for many people, but when I was younger I had tried AT LEAST 10 different ones from varying categories. Not one helped my anxiety, they just made it worse and I would have to take more benzos to combat the panic attacks I would get from paxil, wellbutrin, zoloft, prozac, etc. Fuck those things for general anxiety problems.

Also, for anxiety, try magnesium supplements. Working out on a regular basis, eating/drinking properly, and keeping focused on enjoyable hobbies/working can all help quell anxiety.

i know what you're going thru, so good luck! Feel free to PM me if you'd like to chat about anxiety disorders or need help with anything.

Thanks for all the positive input!
I may order some Phenibut, but I've heard mixed reviews on it. I've tried Inderal with success, the only problem with that is I have extremely low motivation to workout after taking it.
Antidepressants don't really work well with me, it causes more problems than it helps.

As for ambien, I like it. But it's probably better just for sleep. I will look into Gabapentin and magnesium to see if that helps.
I train at the gym about 4 times a week, although it helps, it doesn't help enough.

Thanks for the suggestion!!

Both clonidine and vistaril will comletely sap you of energy. You'll feel like a zombie walking through mud. Don't expect that nice energy boost you get from benzos.
And phenibut, I find subjectively TOTALLY different from benzos. Yes it does have an anxiolytic effect but feels very different due to GABA B agonism -- feels more like neurontin, GBL, or alcohol. I find it unpleasant myself.

There really are not proper substitutes for benzos IMO. Even barbs aren't quite the same. More addicting and just feel clumsy and drunk without the euphoria. (I'm not talking just phenobarb here, I'm including seconal and pentobarbital).

But I'd sure love to know how you got off of 5mg clonazepam a day!!!

If you search for my posts you will find that when i was tapering i was keeping everyone updated over the year i tapered, and i messed up, i meant 5mg clonazepam and 5mg phenazepam..

and on a side note for you, i am also on 20mg zyprexa and a bunch of other meds for bi polar disorder and the clonidine and vistaril deff help a lot and don't "suck out your energy" or whatever you said.
in fact.. with bupe they actually potentiate it quite well, if you were wondering my doses its .4mg/day clonidine and 100mg/day vistaril.

if you have anything else to say about this just PM me, oh wait you can't.. nevermind you're still a GL.
I can wait

I want to try kava and phenibut. But from what I've heard, it all depends on the person you buy it from. Do you recommend a particular brand?
As for the Lyrica, I believe that is exactly what I need.

Thanks guys! :)

as far as phenibut goes, go to nutraplanet and buy primaforce brand, bulk powder..thats what i use and it works!

but yes the dreaded side effect of benzos and other anti-anxiety drugs is they do zap the energy out of you...even phenibut although it kills anxiety it also takes the 'zip' out of me..im not as quick thinking, im more sluggish b ut im chilled out..i guess you cant have anti-anxiety efects without it making you more tired...well, Ghb is the only drug ive ever done that both sedates and stimulates you at the same time..

any of you not get sort of sluggish on gaba drugs?

Beta blockers are fantastic for physical anxiety (Bystolic, Metoprolol, etc.)

For sleep, Valerian capsules (Nature Made) brand work great, and knock me out so hard, and I wake up feeling like I'm on Valium. For daytime anxiety, Kava (not store-bought Kava, but real, powdered root, or "Pharma Kava" brand tincture) is pretty great.

Carisoprodol a prodrug for meprobromate. I love it. Its currently unscheduled and although I havent, can be obtained through online pharmacy things. Also there is butylbital which I havent yet tried, Im tempted to do an extraction on it as I found one on the net. Its a non scheduled barbiturate when combined with caffiene and apap.
