Maybe the bag was made with paper? maybe the paper absorved the codeine from the water? but caffeine is way more bitter than codeine, its one of the most bitter alkaloids..
What about the charcoal that remains in your final solution? How healthy is that?

FYI I work in an ER and Activated Charcoal is used to remove codeine in OD/ingestion. You would remove more codeine/other opiate than caffeine. Dont waste your time or effort. it is totally worthless.

All I can say is I got way more of a buzz this way than with only the CWE alone, or with Chromic's method.
Also as mentioned earlier it's used to remove impurities from morphine base.

There are several BIG diferences between what you are comparing
1. You are trying to purify about 1% codein tabs- the heroin is near 100% so any loss would be MINISCULE
2. A SMALL amount of charcoal is added to heroin, mainly to decolorize it. You have to use a much larger percent charcoal to remove aspirin/caffeine
3. The amount of charcoal as to the tiny percentage of codeine would totally eliminate it.
4. I am sorry to say, but any "buzz" you felt is known as the placebo effect. If your brain truly beleives you will feel a buzz, guess what? You will "feel" a "buzz"
Caffeine's solubility in room temp water is 22mg/ml. Codeine's solubility is much more than that, on the order of a gram in a few mls 1g/2.25ml (Codeine Phosphate). As long as you use very little water, you will get almost no caffeine. Sure using less water wastes more, but that's the price you have to pay.
If someone can find proper figures for the solubility of Codeine PO4 and SO4 at different temps, they would be greatly obliged. The only ones I can find at a glance are polluted by CWE docs which I don't trust as much as scientific journals.
Therefore, if you used 2ml of water, you should get a good CWE as the caffeine would come out of solution and you'd have the equivalent of approx 800mg codeine and 50mg per CWE.
The trick, of course, is to do a CWE with such a tiny amount of water and still get some product.
