Has anyone experienced anxiety and irritability after taking kratom? I took some after not having anything for a while and didn't really enjoy it; on top of which I had anxiety and was irritable which lasted for another day or so. Has anyone else had similar experiences?

Not for me when I tried it, as an extract. The official side effects "may include dry mouth, increased or decreased urination, loss of appetite, and nausea or vomiting. Heavy use can result in a prolonged sleep. Possible side effects from long term use include anorexia and weight loss, insomnia, and dependence."

It's definitely possible, kratom can increase the concentration of norepinephrine and adrenaline in your body (via its action on adrenergic receptors) and make you feel "stressed".

That, and some people don't like opiate drugs at all. Suprising, I know!

I get the irritability alot from oxycodone & that is why I stopped using it, besides the stimulating effect that I hate. I have kratom but havent tried it yet.

If you don't like the stimulating effects of oxycodone then you probably won't like kratom. Percocet and kratom seem to be similar in effects.

I got quite jittery from consuming probably too much of one of those enhanced strains.

From my understanding, a lot of the extracts and 'enhanced' varieties are basically just increased mitragynine which produces (at least some of) the adrenergic effects whereas the more potent 7-hydroxymitragynine doesn't but was only discovered to be the primary alkaloid responsible for the opioidergic effects recently so it's presence has been underutilized by extract producers (which there are maybe 5 in the world doing so on a large scale).

Some newer extracts publish the proportion of mitragynine and 7-OHM and are not just 10, 15, 20x the mitragynine so they might be less stimulating and anxiogenic.

Would you consider taking kratom a relapse? I'm not sure what's going on, but I decided to get 2 ounces and took it over 4 days after 2 months off sub and kratom (I used kratom to detox off of suboxone in May). It's been 4 days since my last dose and I've had no physical withdrawals or anything but have had an incredible amount of anxiety. I suppose I could chalk this up to starting a new job and returning for my last semester of school after taking a year off. I've noticed that so many on this board are very intelligent and I would really appreciate any input.

I used to take Kratom for w/d's back in 2005......I ALWAYS felt like my anxiety got a lot worse when I took it. I thought that it was all due to me being in withdrawals but about 3 yrs ago I took it when I had been clean from all substances for about 8 months and I felt the same kind of anxiety. Maybe it is a side-effect in certain people.....I don't know.

The first time my rattie girl took kratom she took an entire teaspoon of bali leaf thinking this amount couldn't be that strong. Well suddenly she felt like she had taken bad speed! I mean really tweaked out. Lots of nervous energy and anxious feelings.

The only thing that made her feel better was physical work. She found she felt she just 'had' to vacuum and then vacuuming wasn't enough so she actually SWEPT the carpet! lol Then she started sweeping the sidewalks and part of the parking lot... after this she felt better.

She found later that she didn't need to take as much at at much smaller doses even 1/4 a teaspoon she just felt good. She tried to do bigger doses of like 2 teaspoons and didn't get the speedy feeling (well maybe at first) and did get nods - but these made her puke and she didn't get as much out of it as she felt she should at these doses.

So now she just uses small doses and if she feels she needs more she takes more. No more anxiety or tweaky feelings this way.

She never felt irritable when taking it but she noticed that she was in a better mood when she took it than when she didn't and if she dosed several times a day for a few days and then didn't dose she sometimes felt a little irritable... but nothing too bad.

I should of been more specific in that my anxiety kicked up after I was done taking kratom. But actually, I did have some minimal anxiety while on it too which makes me believe it's gotta be one of two (or even both) things: 1. This vendor (which I never ordered from before) had a bad batches or 2. I was actually in withdrawal even though it was only 2 ounces in 4 days. I forgot someone told me before that w/d from light kratom use can be bad headaches and anxiety whereas heavy w/d is more like a mild opiate w/d with physical symptoms.

When I used kratom during sub detox, it was great. I felt better than I had in 3 years when I took it. However, this time around it was ok I guess, but afterwards really sucked.

Hmm could be the vendor. Once I got some kava that just felt jittery and uncomfortable. The only difference in the ad was that it said it was 'water soluble'. I never bought from them again. Try a different kind. Perhaps it was w/d because i noticed some bad moods when i didn't dose.

Thanks. I mean, it should feel the same way it did when I took it months ago, right? I'll give myself a week or two and order elsewhere and see what happens.
