Anxiety DURING a roll?

Basically every single time I have taken MDMA/Ecstasy/Molly (probably 12-15 times in the past 2 years), I have experienced moderate/severe anxiety during the roll.

It's a feeling of too much too fast/I need to get out of here/I need a breather/I'm scared/general anxiety.

Most of the times I've taken it and experienced anxiety has been in a live music setting. Other times, it's been in a non-threatening, non-live music setting and I've still felt the overwhelming urge to leave/desire a change of setting.

Why is this happening? What can I do to stop it? Some of these occurrences have been truly awful, like needing a friend to accompany me to calm me down, leaving the immediate concert area. The genre of music has varied wildly, from Sigma/Dirtyphonics (drum and bass) to jambands (Phish) to electronic jambands (Disco Biscuits), so it's not like the style of music is causing the anxiety.

Once I leave the place I'm originally stationed, I calm down a bit. Either this is from my roll/peak decreasing, or the actual setting being changed.

It pretty much ruins anywhere from 15-45 minutes of my roll, but after that period, everything is perfect.

I guess my question is, does anyone else experience this, what could be the cause, and what could I do to get rid of it?

Thanks,
oceanman

I have experience anxiety while rolling once or twice and i think its been to due to a bad setting. Try rolling alone with someone you are sexually attracted to. Those rolling experiences were always my favorite and ive never had any anxiety while doing this either.

there is a massive increase in cortisol levels before a roll so thats why people get pre-roll anxiety. im not sure about anxiety during your actual roll though.

maybe you have social anxiety?

Solution to your problem? snort it..

very very bad idea...... :|

what doesages are you taking approximately??

perhaps you are going out of your comfort from just plain too higher dose.
ill only ever become anxious if i reach very high ammounts, which has only happened once, recently!!

generally its a setting thing, but on this occassion it doesnt quite all match up :(

350mg

When i snort it kills my pre-roll anxiety and a very good trip..

I would agree with mistee.

I had this before. Feeling really terrible. Anxiety is really what it was. It was the first time I had taken a full cap (of molly) one shot and the high didn't come gradually. It hit me like a ton of bricks and it was too much. The very action of moving my arm sent shivers through my whole body because of how sensitive my skin was to the changes of pressure do to my arm moving or the very light air coming into contact with it.

MY solution to this: Take half a cap (or pill) and take the rest once you feel comfortable doing so. Otherwise I feel it's too much at once.

I often feel nervous before it kicks in and have in the past felt scared on the come up. My boyfriend used to make me suck him off until the nervousness passed. It worked.

Could take a small dose of a benzo with rolling. I've rolled on .5mg of Kpin several times and always enjoyed this experience at a rave better than MDMA alone. I always feel more confident during the roll with a Kpin, not as therapeutic or loving though.

Hmm that's not the most sound advice I've ever heard.... but I think LimaZ is trying to say snorting pills makes it more intense? and maybe a less chance of noticing any anxiety? Don't even know why I'm trying to figure this one out/explain it... Dumb shit right here. :)

I feel anxiety during the late come up. I feel paranoid and stuff. I think im going to overheat and pass out. Setting is definitely a big part of it. If Im alone, I get more paranoid. The anxiety goes away eventually and then I feel awesome.

I have heard of other people feeling the same way. Its not a rare problem.

How do I deal with it?

Make sure the setting is right. Dont be alone.
Sit down and drink a cold glass of water.
Come to realization that this always happens and it will be over soon.

Or try taking half a pill , then after 40 minutes take the other half.

i get it occasionally. it just depends on my location really. i usually drop it in my friends house before going out and all my problems are solved.

Cortisol levels spike by up to 800% while climbing towards your peak.
Once the top is reached cortisol tapers off and prolactin/oxytocin levels increase in a second wave.

Cortisol is associated with speedy, tense, and stimulating effects.
Prolactin/oxytocin is associated with feelings of empathy, love, and being talkative.
Normally dopamine is absent during prolactin release, yet somehow the two occur simulateously while rolling.

The brain activates this neuro-endocrine response due to the profound effects of serotonin in very large quantities. Hopefully this response is a finely tuned symphony.

What if it doesn't happen like that?

Allow me to illustrate a similar process.
When you drink alcohol, it doesn't all absorb at the same time.
There is a 'first-pass' and 'second-pass' metabolism that occurs.
The stomach comes first, but when the stomach empties into the intestines the 'second-pass' takes place.

Many have experienced this - when you take too many shots you may not realize it until its too late. The second rush of alcohol can be stronger that what you anticipated. The speed at which it enters the bloodstream can cause very unpleasant results, sometimes the room spins and it all comes back up!

This doesn't happen to me anymore because I learned how to drink. I also find slamming shots to be unnecessary. If I have a liquor I really like, I enjoy the flavor rather than inhaling it with intoxication as the only motive. However, I find this illustration to make perfect sense.

Sometimes drugs, just like alcohol, absorb in stages. They do not enter the bloodstream in a single rush if taken orally. MDMA also has non-linear pharmacokinetics, which means a variety of factors can influence the speed at which it enters the bloodstream and the brain.

Everybody experiences 'anxiety' while coming up to their peak.
Cortisol is a critical part of the process.
But I think what the OP describes is something akin to the sudden realization that I took too many shots and the room is spinning!

I have only had this happen once on MDMA and it was not the roll that landed me where I am. On this particular occasion I just felt WAY too clamy and uncomfortable. Anxiety was a problem, but most of the symptoms involved physical discomfort. It was the only roll out of more than a dozen that I had trouble having sex when I wanted to...

After 30 minutes of trying to level out, I was fine.
I realized exactly what caused it - I hadn't eaten all day despite working.
My empty stomach and GI didn't hold onto the drug as long as it should have.
I never made the same mistake again, not with MDMA anyways...

On another occasion a gram and a half of mushrooms caused an extreme reaction, much worse than the MDMA. It was a horrible trip that lasted 2 hours, and most of it was spent with the room spinning and my eyes closed. I even felt like I was going to die! 8(

Once again, an empty stomach was the culprit.
That time I really learned my lesson. With the mushrooms it was abundantly obvious what happened, but the MDMA seemed a little more subtle.
I can see how the cause might go undetected.

There are many reasons that MDMA can hit you TOO quickly, but one of the most important factors is the contents of your stomach and intestinal tract.

People that have never experienced this may simply believe that it only happens to certain people. I would argue that not controlling the speed of digestion could easily cause this phenomena in MOST users.

For it to happen with this OP every time....might suggest that more attention needs to be paid to diet in the day/s preceding the roll. Perhaps there are other factors influencing the absorption and cortisol relationship.

I just don't want most users thinking it couldn't happen to them.
I have talked to a number of MDMA users that have had an experience like this.
Many of them describe it as very unpleasant - they are rolling too hard and they can't stop it. Eventually it smooths out. Most of the time...

The ones that don't, we sometimes hear about on the news...

^^
Well that's a lucid comment, so thanks. But if you want to avoid the whole stomach/instestine business why not plug your mdma?
There is an entire thread on plugging in the projects section of the forum.
As for the modulating effect of food on the roll, this has been discussed before. I personally favour eating moderately about 4 hours before the roll.

I have anxiety and am yet to experience it while rolling, maybe MDMA just doesnt agree with you.
