Would appreciate some advice from someone who is actually in the know. Need an antihistamine with low potential for serotonergic effects, as I am on SSRIs. (dex)chlorpheniramine is probably about the worst choice. What would be a safe choice.

Cost is not important, but need something likely to be OTC. Sedating properties are not a problem either.

Diphenhydramine?

Effect of antihistamines on uptake of [3H]5-HT
and binding of [3H]paroxetine
The effects of antihistamines on uptake of [3H]5-HT
and binding of [3H]paroxetine were studied in vitro to
elucidate the different effects of antihistamine on
MDMA-induced depletion of 5-HT. The results show
that CPA, PYRI, and TRIP, but not DIPH, are potent
inhibitors of [3H]5-HT uptake into synaptosomes of the
cerebral cortex and that CPA is potent inhibitor of the
binding of [3H]paroxetine to the presynaptic 5-HT
transporter, in agreement with a report of Cusimano
and Sankar (1977). The IC50 values of CPA, DIPH,
TRIP, and PYRI on [3H]5-HT uptake were 89, 11,095,
90, and 141 nM, respectively (Table I), which did not
correlate with their protection of MDMA-induced depletion
of 5HT. DIPH did protect against MDMA-induced
depletion of serotonin, although it was a weak inhibitor
of 5-HT uptake.
