Last week me and someone else got into talking about Chantix the anti smoking agent because it's been on the t.v. for lawsuit commercials as its side effects are deep depression , scuicide , and many other horrible symptoms. The person I was talking to said many antismoking drugs have shown to also be effective in depression and also as an antipsychotic. I read a little bit about antipsychotics and they are said to block dopamine channels in the brain. But if antipsychotics are also used as antidepressants how does blocking the "reward pathway" help someone with depression? I can see how it can help keep someone from smoking because nicotine and many other DRIs would be less effective because of the dopamine blockage but how is a dopamine antagonist help depression? I may be wrong with what I have said throughout this question as I don't know much about this but if someone could correct anything wrong I have said it would be appreciated to have the correct information.
