Hey guys,

So i was taking a Anti-Histamine for a health issue but it basically destroyed my sex drive.

I was wondering if it's likely that all the H1 receptor blockers will do exactly the same?

Thanks,

Ants

Well I'm no expert on the pharmacology of anti-histamines but I think it's safe to assume your going to run into the same problems with other H1 blockers as they work in a similar manner, perhaps weaker anti-histamines will have less effect on sex drive but then you would be sacrificing the efficacy of the medication. I'm addicted to mu agonists which also made my sex drive tumble but switching to another mu agonist won't solve anything, it's the method of action causing the problem. I'm not sure of the reason your on H1 blockers but perhaps you can find an alternate medication to treat your illness? If your taking them for nausea/travel sickness odansetron, a 5-ht3 antagonist, may be usefull or if your taking something like hydroxyzine for anxiety or insomnia kava or valerian extract may help...

NP, tbh as a person with diagnosed anxiety I find that anti-histamines don't set the bar very high for their level of benefits. I find that valerian extract works alot better as does kava and even L-Theanine which can be bought as a supplement or drunk in tea. Green tea is a tea that is high in theanine so you may wanna give that a shot, just try and get a brand that's low in caffeine as that will make anxiety worse in high doses. Another great anxiety aid is magnesium citrate, alot of people are deficient in magnesium and I found that once I began a magnesium regimine my body feels less tense overall. Keep searching, you'll eventually find something that works just as good if not better and doesn't kill your sex drive. If you choose to take valerian keep in mind that it becomes more effective the longer you use it so give it some time before giving up on it.

I wish they made AH sleep aids as strong as the AH sleep aid component in Seroquel. That would be awesome as it could be powerful, OTC, used daily and provide a natural sleep by using drowsiness to induce sleep and not interere with it directly. Plus its better then other sleep aids like benzos and ambien which result in you wanting to be awake and experience the effect instead of wasting it on sleep. How i envy people who can pass out so fast anywhere like while watching a movie.

For me its like a mental battle and excercise in thought control each time i dont use an aid of some sort. Have found that focusing on a single thought, perferably a mental image of some kind, like an object or scenery works very well to induce sleep fast. The biggest enemy on the other hand is internal dialog based thoughts. They never allow sleep, however thinking in images or concepts and not words works great. Trying not to think at all doesnt work, sleep seems to occur during the distracted thought phase, no thoughts which is hard to do anyway simply keeps you awake and focusing energy on having no thoughts, which requires the mind to remain awake.
