Another reason not to use drugs: it's socially irresponsible

I first thought about this from reading someone's post that said they felt guilty about not being able to go a day without using drugs when there are people in Africa who don't even have enough food. I also feel that guilt whenever I think about my past drug usage. Drugs can distract you from what's really important in the world, things like helping others in need. If I can just put into helping others and doing good things for the world as much effort as I did into using drugs, I think that would be good for everyone, including me. My dad says that it's important to be connected with the world, and that drugs reduce that connection, making someone more self-centered instead. I agree. What do you all think about this? Hopefully this is a thought that might help us all do better things with our lives than use drugs.

You CAN responsibly use drugs.
Everything in moderation.
And obviously don't go doing stupid shit like IVing coke or driving while tripping or anything.
With some caution, some research, and a bit of common sense, someone can enter the world of drugs and come out (virtually) unscathed.
Have you ever thought about how Pablo Escobar donated much of his vast drug-wealth to help rebuild Columbian villages, build schools and promote youth activities and food services for the poor? Hmmm..... that was all American's coke money. You think Americans would have paid hundreds of $$s a week to Columbia just out of the good of their hearts ? no... they wanted the blowww
I'm not saying it's good but there's two sides to every story

Sometimes using drugs is a bit more complicated than just being selfish and not worrying about what´s happening in Africa.
It´s just not that simple. But a hell of a good advice coming from your father.

Of course you are not the only one, that totally makes sense.
It´s a matter of perspective. Besides, everyone is different.

But the OP does make a very good point. It doesn't have to be drugs--anything that you are completely wrapped up in and owned by that is all about you has a negative impact on the world. Money addiction, beauty addiction, power addiction are all just as self-centered. I have seen New Age people that are some of the most self-absorbed and selfish people around. Drug abuse and addiction gets all the stigma but it is really just one facet of a larger societal problem.
