Another nail in the coffin "Simon Cowell and SFX reveal ‘Ultimate DJ’ TV show "

It’s been a while now since rumors first surfaced of a Simon Cowell-fronted DJ talent show. In October 2012, we heard that the plans had stalled, leaving just Steve Lawler’s preemptive parody trailer, The Dex Factor to entertain us. Today brings the announcement that the show is indeed coming our way soon, developed by the Simon Cowell-led Syco Entertainment and backed by American events giant SFX Entertainment and T-Mobile. Its name? Ultimate DJ.

As the official press release sells it: “Launching initially online, the music event competition will feature producer-challenges where DJs will be invited to submit recordings for fan voting via social media. From there, the competition will move on to live challenges and performances in SFX event venues, integrating next-generation production design from SFX partner companies.”

As for The X Factor impresario Simon Cowell, he’s waxing lyrical about the involvement of SFX, whose well-publicized spending spree in the dance industry looks far from finished. “We have been developing this concept for a while but our partnership with SFX has been a real game-changer for this format,” Cowell says in a statement. “It made complete sense for us to collaborate with SFX with their access to the best up-and-coming DJs and their great marketing platform to build new DJ talent.”

While we don’t yet have a start date for Ultimate DJ, expect it to be one of the most discussed and debated topics in dance music this year.

In case anyone hasn't seen the parody video Steve Lawler did a while ago, it's absolutely hilarious and i bet it is spot on for what is to come.

I don't give a shit about what these people do. There will always be Mainstream and there will always be Underground. Let them have this stupid show, nothing of value will come from it.

i don't understand how they're going to judge djing based on 1-3 minute slots for each performance, could be entertaining i guess. not "another nail in the coffin" though IMO.
