Well, I told my shrink (after reading the "I've fallen in love with a drug" thread) that I know I have add. We discussed it for a while and she was actually very impressed with my research and self- diagnosis. She suggested I see a psychologist for testing and what not. She knows that I have been to treatment a few times and that I *have been* addicted
to other drugs (not stimulants). My question is will this affect the doc's decision to perscribe me Adderall, even if it's something that will help me.

Yup, definitly.. a past histoy of addiction will blacklist you for MANY DRUGS - amphetamines included .. you MIGHT get some low dose of Adderall, but if it's noted in your file that you were once hooked on something, you aint getting far!

What if my "past addiction" was related to the fact I can't concentrate on a single topic for 20 goddam seconds. I'm not bullshitting, there isn't one add symptom I've read of that I don't have. From respiratory irregularity and ear infections when young to having several projects going at once and never completing anything. It has had a profound, negative affect on my life and if I'm rejected sanity because of past addictions I'm gonna be pissed.
How would the doc know I've been to treatment? Legally my shrink can talk to NO ONE about shit we discuss. What kind of file would they have. I have no insurance (for 3yrs) and don't have a regular doctor that I see.

Phreex is correct -- if they know you abuse drugs, they will be very, very reluctant to give you stimulants, and you'll probably be stuck with Cylert, Wellbutrin, or something similar.
However, you're right that your psychiatrist cannot legally disclose anything without your consent. If you don't tell the doctor and don't sign any release forms, they have no way of knowing. The story may be different outside the US, and I'm not sure how it works if you have a criminal record, but in your situation things should be OK. The doctor will likely ask you if you have used drugs before, though.

1) You HAVE tried drugs - you "smoked a little pot" except you "didn't like the feeling of being altered" .. don;t say you're drug free because I don't believe there is a 17 y/o male with ADHD that has NOT tried smething... so ADMIT TO DRUG USE, but make it a POSITIVE be explaining how you didn't like the effects...
2) If you have a DOCUMENTED ADDICTION in your charts, it doesn't matter WHY you were hooked - hell, terrorists could have held you down and shot you up with smack until you were hooked - the point is, this show yer doc you have an addictive personality and after your first dose of adderall, you will be sucking cocks to support your habbit (you get the idea) ..
3) Without your charts you will have to start all over... you can PAY to havethem give YOU your charts which you deliever to yuer new doc... I won't even get into this as it will be covered in a future PhreeX Publication.. so your charts can HELP of ot says you have a clear docuemented , on the flip side, if there is a big piece of pink neoj paper that says "THIS PATIENT IS SEEKING DRUGS FOR RECREATUIN" then you will get fucked in the ass, sans lubs, and you don't even get reach-around.. you could always tell your story but just say it was an ";out of state doctor" or some shit...
4) You were in the hospital for DEPRESSION.. a LOT of teens go to mental hospitals where they catalog you, drug you, and you're their drugged up puppet until your insurance runs out, at which point you're "cured" ..

Ok, first of all MoFo's advice is horrible, don't follow it. Do not take drugs of any sort before seeing a doctor. They're professsionals, they recognize that shit with the blink of an eye.
I was just diagnosed with ADD a couple weeks ago, and yes, I actually have it. I was complete honest with the doctor about everything *except* past drug use. I admitted to trying several things once or twice and not really liking them (pot, shrooms, acid). I also admitted to trying meth once and told him that "even though my friends got high, it didn't really do anything to me so I thought it was pointless and I never tried it again." This was a lie of course; do enough of any stimulant and you will get high, regardless of ADHD. I also forgot to tell him about my regular pharmacutical abuse and the 6 month long coke and 100+mg a day ritalin habit I had a few years ago. Doctors are very reluctant to perscribe stimulants to someone they believe could get addicted, but over 50% of adults with ADD have had, or do have, a substance abuse problem. It's just part of the disease, so you're walking a tight line. Admit to some drug experimentation as a teenager, but do not admit to doing anything now or in the past couple of years. A couple more tips:
*Go directly to a psychiatrist
*Act a little figity.. Not like you're tweaking though. Stare at the things on the wall during pauses when they're writing. Sublety is the key here. Just act bored.
*See a doctor who has absolutely no relation to your current doctor or anyone that might know about your drug problems. When they ask about previous doctors, tell them you can't remember their names, you never see them more than once or twice because of your HMO.
*They're going to be looking for symptoms of anxiety and bipolor also..Know what these are and stress that you don't have them. i.e- you can't concentrate, but you aren't an excessive worrier
*be prepared for this to take awhile. they're going to make you jump through alot of hoops to get meds, this is to weed out the people who don't really need them. it took me almost 2 months, 2 psychologist, and a psychiatrist. stick with it.

I agree with mofo 100%! Follow that to the letter! Hell, it HELPS if durring the sessiojn you look art your watch and say "time for my mediocine" then rail a line off his desk... use his Dr. Name Plaque to chop out your rail and of course offer him some!
Seriously, yer 21, so your days of Adderall, Dexedrine, and even Ritalin are running out the window... enters drugs like WELLBUTRIN and PAXIL ...
Fuck the noise of a psychologist, go straight for a psychitrist so you only have tio tell the story once or twice..
Remember the golden rule of scripting - don't say "no", act excited ast the prospect of GETTING BETTER then call to bitch about it not working..
