Hi I understand how to do a cwe but have just one question I don't understand y the water has to be so cold. If the codeine is soluble in water I wud of fort that the water temperature wudnt make a difference. The filter wud catch the paracetamol regardless?

Paracetamol is soluble at a rate of 12.78mg/mL at a temperature of 20 °C.

It is more freely soluble as the temperature rises.

Insoluble in cold water; more soluble in warm water; soluble in alcohol, acetone, and other organic solvents

At colder temperatures the paracetamol will precipitate out and the codeine will stay dissolved. At warmer temperatures the paracetamol AND codeine will dissolve and you won't separate anything. I've never seen a CWE procedure before but my advice would be throw it in the fridge overnight.

The warmer the temperature of the water, the more solute (substance/s dissolved in the water) there is. The warmer your CWE, the more APAP will be in there. At colder temperatures there is less APAP able to go into solution, yet the codeine remains very soluble still especially compared to the amount we are trying to get into solution.
