I am working on a new system of categorizing reports here in Trip Reports that will make searching for substances and combinations tremendously easier. I will explain more of this later on as it nears being ready to use, but in the meantime, if you see that your report has been edited by a moderator, it has been unchanged, but we just added a "tag" to the bottom of the report body, which will be barely noticeable. These are for assigning categories to each report.

You can see it in action right now with a limited number of reports if you'd like. Just do a regular search on the forum for substancecode_XXX, where XXX is the name of a substance, with no dashes or spaces or other punctuation. Many substances will be tagged with multiple substance names. Also, you can search for two or more substances in combination but entering two substancecode_XXX strings separated by spaces.

I am also thinking of adding other categories such as type of experience (difficult, glowing, etc), and things of that nature. Also I will add a tag for combinations ( _combo_ ).

So as an example, if you wanted to find all reports about 2C-E, you would search for (without quotes): "substancecode_2CE". or if you wanted to look for combinations of 2C-B and AMT, you would put in: "substancecode_2CB substancecode_AMT". Or if you wanted to search for all reports with AMT which are combinations with at least one other thing, you could search for: "substancecode_AMT _combo_".

I plan on making a sticky thread as well with shortcut links to searches for each type of substance and maybe some combinations.

Again, a reminder that for now there aren't a lot of tagged reports.

_exclude_

I know, I was confusing them in my head and had to go back to change some things. The proper term should be "substancecode" and NOT "reportcode".

You may have gotten it to work with reportcode, but it shouldn't anymore.

lolwut?

its substancecode_XXX

check out all the recent TRs, you can see them at the bottom of each original post.

Sorry there was confusion, since we were talking about different codes originally. :P

I know, but the contradicting posts made me laugh. I even fixed a couple mistakes with tags on one of my posts :). a couple missing brackets.

This is coming along... we're all working hard on it. I'm also working on putting together a Trip Reports Directory, which has dynamic links to many different searches (that is, as more reports are added these same links will always display all results without anyone needing to update them). Within a few days most likely I will have the directory displaying to the public in its first incarnation.

In the meantime, anyone can use this system... we've got hundreds of reports already tagged. I won't reveal all of the details until we're closer to finished, though. ;)

I'm looking forward to it. The native search facility is a bit frustrating. There have been many times when I wanted to browse more than just Erowids reports section. I knew there was plenty to read on Bluelight, but couldn't seem to find the search results I wanted. Onwards and upwards. Good luck with it Xorkoth and all the best - PippUK.

At first I thought this was for the whole site and I thought "OH thank you THANK YOU!" then I realized it was just for those elitist over in PD/TR. . .8) ;) Good job guys. Great idea.

Just for us elitists over at TR, actually... ;) although I think we're mostly PDers also. I'd love to implement something like this for PD, but... I think that would be biting off more than I could chew.

Are there any plans for other codes to be included? I'm thinking keywords like "solo"/"partner"/'group" or "indoor"/"outdoor".

Another question is, of course, whether these are entirely necessary.

Either way, I've thrown it out there.

my vote goes just for substance codes.

if you want to search for those kind of things you can use google to search our TR forum in conjunction with the substancecodes.

we're adding categorycodes and all that too.

Ideally I would love to tag every report with every possible iota of information.

Realistically, this will never happen. We are starting work on adding categorycodes (type of experience), experience level, and method of administration.

You may notice that the title of this thread has changed somewhat. :)

You might also notice a new thread stickied to the top of the forum, called the Trip Reports Directory. This is not yet complete, actually far from it, but over the next day or two I plan on filling in all the resy of the categories. Basically the Directory is a compilation of links to searches for substances. Just find the substance or substance type that you want to search for, and click on it, and voila! All of the reports fitting that category will come up. Or at least all of the reports we have tagged so far. Every day we are going back further and tagging even more reports. Eventually every report will be tagged and it will be a piece of cake to find all of the reports you want to in the gigantic multi-year repository that is Trip Reports. Also, afterf a while we will be adding more detail to the searches, ie, type of experience, method of administration, and so on. Also soon to be added to the Directory are some common combinations.

This thread here is the place to discuss this new system. If you think we should add something to the Directory, let us know! Clearly there are many substances that have not been added as of the time of this writing, but I'm sure that no matter how much time we spend filling it in, there will be substances we've forgotten.

So basically, please discuss and let us know what you think. let us know ways we could improve the system. Let us know what you like about it. This is our forum, and by us I don't mean the moderators, but all of us. :)

Congratulations guys on the directory....................absolutely brilliant and will become a very valuable tool as it becomes more and more known.

A heartfelt congratulations all round.

I'm looking for a few good men with knowledge of ethnobotanbicals (egor for example) to help me fill in some of the spaces for the Ethnobotanicals group in the Trip Reports Directory. And I'm still looking for anyone to make suggestions as to what to add to it. Names of pharmaceuticals would be a big help too as I'm not really too into them and there's no way I'm going to be able to think of them all. Just post here or PM me.

Thanks!

Basically, lack of time by all moderators. Haven't seen Beenhead or Psilo for a while and I am working and just bought a house. Have any suggestions for me?

EDIT: Never mind, I see that Beenhead has been around, I just haven't talked to him for a while.
