lady
But not in his eye
He orders drink & momentarily
Catches a glimpse of her
He is in a town he'll never
Return to
Lets call it _______
She sips her drink
& continues to think
Of taxes & her life
Yesterday & how she
Wished she hadn't
Planned for such a
Simple world When she
Had such ambition in her dream life
She sips her drink
Again & looks at a
Ripped up Scratch
Ticket behind the
Bartender
Straaange

If you're trying to interpret it as a joke, I think you're doomed to failure. Nonetheless, I think it's a cool piece of writing. It's punchy, and there are quite a few things going on. Would probably make a good short spoken word piece.
