Too long; don't read version - Long time metal fan who recently got into electronic music who can't wait to become a part of the 'rave culture' and have more awesome experiences says Hi from the UK! :)

Here's my story:

When I was 9 years old, I was shown some Metal and was hooked ever since. I've always been hugely passionate about music. Up until about 4 years ago, it was all I listened to. I was one of those shy/quiet, "alternative" guys at school, obviously not among the "popular kids", and with a social circle that meant I never really got exposed to anything different, or illegal (in other words, I've been itching to try certain things for ages but never had any "way in").

But then about 4 years ago, just before I went to Uni to do Music Production, I came across "Noisia & TeeBee - Lost Cause", and my love for electronic music began. I'm now into all kinds of DnB, House, Hard House/Hardstyle (I'm still new to this and am learning the differences) after getting hooked to Kutski's show on Radio 1, and of course... Dubstep (though probably not as much as the others).

I went to my first electronica/dance festival earlier this year (Global Gathering), had a great time, and some guy I know had his first (sort of) MDMA experience, and now I want to go raving more and really become part of the culture. I still look like a stereotypical Metalhead though, haha - hair down to my ass - so I do feel a bit like a fish out of water, and as I said already, I'm not exactly the most outgoing/confident/sociable person in the world, so it does feel a bit strange. But of course, that's where a certain substance would come in handy...

My "in" into the actual rave scene would be my girlfriend. I've known her since I was about 10, got with her when I was 16, lost her just before I turned 18, she went off raving a lot, then we got back together a few months ago... and now we're having another rough patch cus all of a sudden she's decided to be MASSIVELY confused about her life in general (women eh?)

So basically... it could turn out well and she'll stay with me and I'll be able to get to know her mates more and still have people to start going to raves with and to obtain certain substances for me. OR - it won't turn out well, and I'll have to plunge into raving alone and with no self-conciousness-reducing/sociability-increasing substances and see how it goes. I wouldn't be eaten alive would I? haha. I guess if you're there to enjoy it, it doesn't really matter what you look like or how you act, as long as you're having a good time, nobody could fault you for that. Any advice that could be useful?

I'm considering going to Storm vs Ravers-Re-United at the Emporium in Coalville (uk) on the 24th (Kutskiiiiii!!!). My (just about) girlfriend says she might go - I think her mates will definitely be going, but I don't think I'd really be able to hang out with them (they know about our rough patch and it'd be a bit strange me tagging along with them, with or without my gf being there, when I barely know them or the rave culture at all). I dunno, I'll have to see I guess. Swim could just ask if he can get some mdma sorted, bomb it, and go off and do his own thing/makes new friends.

ANYWAY, I'm blabbering on a bit. I tend to do that, haha.

So yeah... Hi from someone coming from a totally different background! I look forward to what lies ahead :)
