An appetising solution

Thanks for the advice. I went to a GP on friday (not my usual doctor), I had another more urgent but totally unrelated issue that I needed dealing with, got that out of the way and then I troubled him over my weight issues. All he did was look my up and down, decided that I had enough weight on me so that I wasnt going to drop dead tomorrow, told me to quit smoking THEN to come see him. Thanks for stating the bleeding fucking obvious doc, was looking for a bit more guidance than that. My smoking is on its way out atm anyway, was kinda chasing a few ideas to try while im quitting, (as it is, even when I was smoking at the same level 2-3 years ago, at least I was still able to eat up until about a year ago). Right now I'm going to go on advice you guys put forward.

Up the calorie intake as much as possible, and I think that the shakes and supplements could definately do the trick, can get them down quick enough before i feel bloated ;)

As to the excersise, my only option really is running, cant afford the gym =( would simply lifting dumbells around home be effective enough? combined with a bit of running/cardio crap.

Regardless, I'm going to see my regular GP in the next week or two, no doubt he'll be more understanding towards my predicament and can hopefully sort me out with something, or give me some solid points to go on.

Thanks guys

Doing cardiovasucular exercise like running is going to make you lose weight, not put it on (though you might notice your leg muscles get a bit bigger and stronger). Weights is what you need.

You could put the money you save on not smoking towards your gym membership - your fortnightly cost of smoking would probably easily cover a month of gym fees.

Also if money is tight then don't bother with the weight gain/protein shakes. try and eat a larger serving of bread, rice, pasta, potatos with every meal and this will really cover your calories. Supplements are no where as good as real food for either putting on wieght or building muscle, and real high carb food is often alot cheaper.

Sorry to double post. if you can't afford a gym membership at the moment, just do alot of pushups, dips using a chair (for tricepts), chin ups using a branch or a bar, lots of sit ups and other ab exercises, and some squats and lunges holding something heavy. The good thing about all these exercises is they can be done at home with no equipment necessary. This will build some base strength before you go on to lifting wieghts.

hey l3, same boat as you, 6'5" and 63 kilos :-(

mixing tobacco with ur billies is the WORST thing to do to your weight. if you're smoking weed with tobacco, the weed will make u hungry (maybe if u havne't worked past the munchies yet) and tobacco will make u not hungry (stimulant, appetite suppresor.)

i'd say stick to just the greenery. very tough to break a mental addiction (weed) if you're mixing it with a physical addiction (tobacco.) bongs all day with tobacco really screws ur eating, and anyone will tell ya as well smoking herb all day will screw with ur eating, just heaps differently.

hate the way aussies constantly mix >.<

Eat more. The more you eat the more you are hungry. Lift weights and eat eat eat.

Eat till you feel like throwing up and then eat some more. You will put on weight. It just takes a while.

It's all about consistency, you say you can go days without feeling hungry (That's BAD for you!). eat a big breakfast lunch and dinner with snacks in between every day, and you will never not feel hungry ;)

Its all about yo eating habbits. It's not that hard to get into a routine.
