I was doing a bit of research on hydrogen cyanide (for school, I'm not a terrorist!) and I read that Amyl Nitrate can reverse the effects of cyanide poisoning and is used to treat cyanide victums. Anyone else heard of this? I just thought it was kinda cool.

Amal nitrate, Used by gays to relax ass muscles. Also if you breath it in you get a buzz, it is fucking bad for you and turns you gay.
Dont know anything about Cyanide reversal though, interested to hear how that would work.

please check whether it is amyl nitrate or amyl nitrite. there is a difference... oh and the stuff that you buy isn't gonna be amyl nitrite, it's illegal in most places, the stuff that you can get is usually butyl or isobutyl nitrite, which isn't as strong...
i do hope you were joking when you said it turns you gay HTK... although quasi humourous... not really... mostly ignorant...

i'm pretty sure the way it works is to just give you a bit of a jolt if you're slipping out of conciousness from the cyanide poisoning. it's the same kind of thing as giving epinephrine to people who OD, or go into cardiac arrest. originally it was prescribed to people with certain heart problems because it speeds up your heart rate.

"This man suffers from a bad heart. Angina Pectoris. But we have plenty of medicine."
"And now for the doctor!"
Rush(isobutyl nitrate) blows... unless you're rolling. A bottle cost about $14, but shit i've had the same bottle for two years.

Or Alkyl Nitrite (in the UK).... Amyl, Butyl and Isobutyl are now perscription only :-(

Nah, that's the best time to use it !!!

It's £4 over here, sometimes more, depends which club you buy it in ... oh, and it goes stale within a couple of weeks of opening !!

I know it doesnt turn you gay. Damn internet, there should be some way to show sarcasm. That is interesting about the Cyanide Poisoning, I wonder if anybody has any actual chemical information about what it does.

all good HTK... i was in a bit of a quasi paranoid state and was taking everything a little too literally... i agree about the need for sarcasm indicators... maybe we should use the taco?

I'll check if it was nitrate or nitrite tomorrow. I read the write up on and it didn't really have any info on how exacty it reversed cyanide poisoning though, just mentioned it any moved on pretty much. Peace

Does cyanide poisoning make it difficult to breathe? Maybe I'm thinking of strychnine. Anyway, amyl nitrite was used medically for people with angina (something about it dilating blood vessels making it easier to breath) so if cyanide poisoning caused anything like that, then it would help.
Embrace - the video head cleaner is alkyl nitrite (amyl, butyl and isobutyl are all illegal now). It's not as strong as amyl, but all the nitrites have the same effect (recreationally).

deep breathing and shortness of breath, convulsions, and loss of consciousness,
weakness of the fingers and toes, difficulty walking, dimness of vision, deafness, and decreased thyroid gland function,
Amyl nitrate, given by inhalation, has a long history of use in cyanide poisoning although there is little scientific evidence that it is of significant benefit. (http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/misc076.htm#1)
But hey….. If your gonna die anyway why not give it a shot?
