Experienced Drug User - First Time AMT(about 40mg) Experience - Good Times!
Back in September, I tried AMT. It was a very interesting experience. My friends had tried it and said it was a very long, and intense trip, and so I was interested. I researched the drug (mostly through Erowid) and through some books around the house concerning tryptamine's and MAOI's (Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors). I discovered that AMT is related to many other psychedelics and drugs (like DMT and the stuff that makes you trip from toads), and should not be mixed with pretty much anything (since it is relatively new and not much is known about it and its effects as an MAOI). Erowid taught me a good amount about it, especially in the section where people share their experiences on the drug (like never do E on AMT, and stuff like that). I also learned that you should not mix foods containing tyramine with MAOI's. Now, since almost all food contains tyramine, I decided not to eat during my trip.
Tyramine is a normal chemical component of the body that helps sustain blood pressure. It can rise to fatal levels when combined with some drugs (such as MAOI's). Tyramine is found in most foods, such as, alcohol beverages, breads & yeast products, cheese & most dairy products, sour cream, fruits (bananas, plums, avocados, figs, raisins), meats and meat substitutes (like soy products), vegetables (beans and eggplant), and other products that are added to food, such as yeast, marmite, soup cubes, commercial gravy, soy sauces, and any protein food that has been stored improperly or spoiled.
After learning as much as I could about it, I obtained a pill (about 40mg) for 10 bucks and was off to see The Disco Biscuits with my friends. I was the only one on AMT that night. One of my friends ate some ecstasy and my other friend just had a few beers and smoked some pot. We arrived hours ahead of time, because we didn't have any tickets. I swallowed the pill at about 5:30 PM, right as we were getting in the car to leave for the show. We arrived at the venue at about 6:00PM, and nobody was there, so we went to the bank and to McDonald's. As soon as we got back to the venue I started to feel the AMT kicking in. We decided to stay and chill in the car for a little while. I only ate a couple of french fries and drank some Gatorade while my friends ate their food. About 15-20 minutes after I ate the fries, I puked them back up. So at about an hour and fifteen minutes after taking the AMT I puked. (This was probably the worst aspect of the drug, for me anyway. The other thing that really bothered me was that my hip muscles, legs and muscles in general bothered me a lot while I was dancing.)
Anyway, I'm tripping hard at this point and I could not get out of the car, while my friends waited in line for tickets. It was not like I physically couldn't. I just didn't think that I was mentally prepared for what was outside the car. I didn't want to face reality. Another reason I didn't want to leave the car was because I didn't want to make a fool of myself while waiting in line. So I sat in the car for about two hours watching this amazing sunset and listening to music, while my friends waited in line for tickets.
It felt as if eons passed until my friends arrived back at the car with the tickets. The funny thing was that I was parked about 40 feet from the box office and could see my friends the whole time, but I was incapable of making any contact with them. I was in awe of all of the visuals and euphoric feelings I was having at the time. I was also thinking about the fact that no one really knows what the hell AMT does to you, after all it is a research chemical.
I finally got out of the car once it got dark outside (I'm thinking maybe no one can tell how fucked up I am in the dark). We still had some time to kill before the show started. So we ventured down to the river and smoked a couple of bowls. The weed definitely intensified the visuals. After we puffed I finally had the courage to go inside the venue. (It was a good thing we waited so long to go in, because it was very hot inside and I definetely needed the time to adjust to the drug.)
Once we got inside, it was absolute insanity. As usual, you couldn't bring in any beverages, and drinks were not reasonably priced. I didn't have the patience to wait in line to get water, so my friend (who was only drinking beer and smoking weed) was the designated beverage bitch for the night. As soon as we got situated the band came out with a mindblowing version of Pink Floyd's "Run Like Hell." From that point on I knew it was going to be a great night. I love Pink Floyd, and nothing could have made me feel more comfortable than a song I love. The band was in fantastic form on this night. They were bringing down the house!
It was really hot in the venue and we were all sweating our asses off. My friend (the more or less sober one) found this air conditioning unit in the wall on one side of the room. It was our (and everybody else's) savior. All of the people who were rollin' and myself just crowded around this a/c unit. After a while it almost made you COLD! Thank goodness for the a/c and the chill scene (people were puffin' nugs everywhere!), otherwise I don't know how much fun I would have had. I had a great time and danced a lot throughout the night. Although the other thing that really bothered me was that my hip muscles, legs, and muscles in general bothered me a lot while I was dancing. But I still had a great time, and danced my ass off regardless of how sore I felt. Although I did find myself taking breaks quite frequently. There were times that I just HAD to sit down. There were also times where I would be massaging myself. All in all, I had a wonderful time and treated my experience as a super intense candy-flip.
After the show ended I made my friend drive us around for a while before taking us home. I was still feeling all of the effects and this was about 9 or 10 hours after taking the AMT (I think the band ended around 2:30AM or so).
My friend's were sick and tired of driving around. So we finally decided to head home. Unfortunately, I had to drive from my friend's house to my house. This was at about 5:00AM, and it was less than a mile through the neighborhood to my house (although I don't recomend anybody do this). I got home safely.
As I was sitting in my bed during the come-down, I would close my eyes and it would be like I was watching TV in my head. I had wonderful closed-eye visuals at this point, and anything I imagined would appear. This was really cool I thought.
This drug is not for the faint of heart, and only people with experience should try this one. I would say the drug feels like 6 hits of acid combined with 5-6 pills of E and a line of meth and a line of k for about 16-17 hours straight (although around the 12-13 hour point I SLOWLY started coming down). I treated my trip as a very long and intense candyflip. I stayed well hydrated and stopped dancing whenever I didn't feel right. I smoked a lot of nugs and cigs while on it. The nugs definetely intensified the visuals, but it did not contribute to the euphoric ecstasy feel that AMT also provides. At about 16-17 hours after taking it, I was pretty much down. It felt like I was coming down off of a very intense candyflip and the way you feel when coming down after snorting an eight ball of coke or doing meth for more than a day combined. I read in Erowid that taking a benzodiazepine (drugs like xanax, valium, etc.) when coming down will help you feel better and allow you to sleep easier and sooner. Unfortunately, I didn't have any more xanax at the time and dealt with it. In my opinion it wasn't that bad coming down (although I took some Tylenol PM to help me fall asleep). The next day I felt a lttle woosey and not fully with it. But it wasn't that much different than recovering from any other super intense drug experience.
My experience was a good one and if I had the opportunity to do it again I probably would, but only at a two day concert festival or rave or something similar since it lasts for so long.
If anybody was wondering what the band played:
Set1: Run Like Hell, Pilin' It High, Jigsaw Earth, Spy, M.E.M.P.H.I.S. > 7-11 (1)
Set2: Kamaole Sands > Above The Waves > Munchkin Invasion(2), Widow In The Rain, Mindless Dribble > Kamaole Sands
E: Hot Air Balloon(3)
(1) Completes %/* version. (2) With 'Floes' tease. (3) With 'Kamaole Sands' tease.
