alpha-Methyltryptamine Bioassay- Modest dose (est. 18-25mg)

Abstract: I hope this will serve as a clearly stated and fairly objective anecdotal report on the effects of AMT. This tryptamine has been around for a long time, but oddly very little documentation of any kind, credible or not, exists. This was all written in real time between the third and eighth hours of the event, with some minor edits made prior to submission.

Psychological: Substance takes forever to take effect and it was several hours before I began to experience typical serotonergic effects. AMT felt more like an undistinguished phenethylamine for the better part of two hours after dosing. Visual distortions are more akin to psilocin than LSD. Auditory sense is definitely heightened and music is more gratifying compared to baseline, yet there is no perceptible synesthesia or confusion, no involuntary deep intrinsic interpretations of meaning in songs. Thought patterns are rearranged, again in typical and expected fashion; inner dialogue becomes quirky, however decisive rational thought is not in any way difficult. Definitely stimulation- took a bit more amphetamine than usual* yesterday so my catecholamines are depleted- probably would be more pronounced otherwise. I took AMT about seven years ago and loved it and have wanted to take it again ever since, it having reminded me of a strange but pleasant cross between a variation of DMT and MDMA. It is a unique blend of phenethylamine-like energy and wanting to or having compulsions to “get up and do something,” and tryptamine-like spiritual/existential contentment and sense of well-being. It doesn’t feel quite natural like DMT/psilocin, but it doesn’t feel unnatural or contrived the way MDA or MDMA sometimes do. Sensory perception is altered but not disrupted. Although technically an entactogen/empathogen, I don’t feel very empathetic, as my neighbors stomping around above me doing God knows what and my broke ass washing machine which requires constant supervision are pissing me off the same as ever.
Physiological: Different but similar metallic taste/feeling [as with LSD] in my mouth and throat and I have the usual dumb psychedelic look on my face. I feel clammy all over like with MDMA. Pupils are now dilated but are not saucers. There is a curious alternation between transient queasiness and hunger pangs in my stomach, but no noteworthy discomfort. Peripheral stimulation is minimal. Jaw is not clenched but is not relaxed. Body feels good and free of pain, even though I was sore as hell yesterday and when I woke up this morning.

Summary: The effects of AMT are about what I’d expect based on its pharmacology, with respect to the relatively even distribution of monoamine release, mild MAO inhibition, etc. I’m essentially carrying on with my Saturday, doing laundry and picking up around the house, and I need to run errands at some point and feel indifferent about going out. I wonder about “keeping it together” in Wal Mart, as I have a hard time keeping it together in Wal Mart in the first place, but am sure I’ll be fine. In conclusion I feel very pleasant, in a mellow but alert and surprisingly focused psychedelic state.

Notes:

1. *I’ve been taking 30mg Adderall a day for four weeks to assist with finishing out a brutal semester. I took 10mg about three hours after dosing this morning and another 5mg several hours later, and I feel as if I’ve taken much more than 15mg total. Probably due to slowed monoamine oxidation.

2. With the addition of amphetamine, AMT feels remarkably like MDA. I wonder if an interaction between AMT and amphetamine exists, AMT and amphetamine being the alpha- Methyl’s of the tryptamine and phenethylamine classes, respectively. Probably not. I’m still learning chemistry, and biochemistry of this nature is all but uncharted territory. Please understand I AM IN NO WAY ADVOCATING THE COMBINATION OF AMPHETAMINE AND AMT.

3. With the addition of cannabis I feel a sudden dissatisfaction with the things I’m doing, and everything I think of doing seems unacceptable. I feel generally annoyed, but this soon passes. Predictably, visual activity increases and becomes more dynamic with subsequent cannabis use.

amphetamine and amt will not be having a magical interaction. you will just experience the effects of both drugs at once and there may be a synergistic high
