OK I'm a little confused about amphetamines. I take them and i know the effects your heart rate increases no appetite and your just plain and simple awake. But if this is what happens to you then why do they give these pills to children who already have to much energy (ADD children)?? I have never really understood that. And one more thing what is everyones favorite perscription drug? I think mine is dexadrine or adderal.

"Oh no, my dear; I'm really a very good man; but I'm a very bad Wizard."

it helps the kids with ADD maintain focus on soemthing (i think)... i love adderall, i can go through a bottle of those pills like there Pez

I heard somewhere that amps increase magnesium in your bloodstream thus possibly mellowing you out, magnesium has a calming affect I think, not totally sure on this, but i remember hearing this somewhere.

<~ attention deficient
i'm on ritalin for now...lookin to get it bumped up to adderall as soon as possible though...but anyway to comment on the effects of stimulants on attention deficit people...
for me i notice that stimulants do have a calming effect on me...whether it be ritalin or meth...they really supress my spontaneous outbursts and keep me sitting relatively still instead of running around...they really eliminate procrastination...i get things done when they're suppose to be done...they keep me awake and it's easier to tolerate things which i consider boring...usually i fall asleep but stimulants keep me looking for things that need to be done...
and that's basically everything...
aren't stimulants just swell

To oversimplify: Kids with ADD have a slightly different brain chemistry/structure than normal kids. Thus the effects of amphetamines are quite different. Actually, if a person GENUINELY has ADD or ADHD, then amphetamines should calm them and not give them standard amphetamine effects...

There've been a couple other threads on this, I'll summarize.... pscyhostimulants have the same basic effect on everyone. Low doses make people more calm and focused, while high doses make people hyper and tweeked out. The calming effects may be more noticeable in hyperactive kids, but are qualitatively the same everywhere -- if you take a low dose of Ritalin etc and try to concentrate, you will probably notice it too. Of course individual brain chemistry varies -- some people find low doses make them feel sluggish or dysphoric -- but that's the general idea.
You can come up with any number of bullshit theories about why this is the case; one I personally like is that ADHD sufferers have a weak attention-focusing module, and this gets stimmed up, making them able to better focus the other parts of their brain.

"We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-coloured uppers, downers, screamers, laughers ... and also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of Budweiser, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls...Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can."

Low doses make people more calm and focused, while high doses make people hyper and tweeked out.
i dunno man...i've smoked a 0.1 of meth before and i just felt like sitting down with a cigarette while talking about whatevers on my mind...

that is what zorn was saying! That a little makes you calm and able to pay attention - and when you do more it makes you wired and/ or tweaked.

So what YOU are saying is that 100mg of Meth (assuming decent quality) smoked is a small amount, and should make most people calm and focused?

100mg of high grade crystal should have someone without a tolerence amped. However, some people are "amped" in different ways. I was always the type that, even after I banged 1/4 gram (250 mg) of high grade crystal I would just like to sit back and smoke and talk to whoever was around. Everyone is different, some will be out cleaning the gutters, some will be social and calm.
