Stimulants amphetamines and maoi

hi all,
im still a newbbie so go easy on me,
but from my Physiology knowledge, monoamine oxidase enzymes break down catecholamines (dopamine) n amphetamine (indirectly acting sympathamemetics) right.
so if somone was to use (meth)amphetamines with mao-inhibitors would it prolong the action of amphetamine or would it be toxic??

does that sound right or should i hit the books to learn more.
 
Using a non-selective or MAOA inhibitor with a classical stimulant is strictly contra-indicated. Pairing of such stimulants (strictly those which are non-serotonergic) and an MAOI selective for MAOB must be negotiated with extreme caution. We're talking Shulgin-esque dosing schedules that begin in the hundreds of micrograms. Theoretically, this could be done safely, but I've yet to see anyone negotiate this combo without getting reckless at some point.

At the risk of being condescending, you should hit the books. You must pay attention to catecholamines other than dopamine (nor-epinephrine and adrenaline) and other monoamines (serotonin, phenethylamine-based sympathomemetic drugs) too.

You'll have a hypertensive crisis faster than you can say "oh shit, i fucked up".

Extremely treatment resistant psych patients do use very small amounts of d-amp with certain MAOIs but the practice is considered experimental at best. This doesnt mean you should try it because its insane and you arent a neurologist.
 
More than likely it would be either toxic or produce undesired side effects for sure. I would not do it if i wanted to. Better be on the safe side than the side your not sure about yaknow.

Just study up some research and dig up some shit. Sure ya will find something.
 
Toxic. An anology could be drinking alcohol and taking sleeping pills... it'll get you high up until the stage where you OD. So yeh, it's not going to end well. No one here wants to stop you getting high, we just want to stop you getting hurt. So take everyone's advice
 
Just to demonstrate how dangerous mixing symphathomimetic drugs like amphetamines with MAOIs, I mixed one pseudoephedrine pill whilst I was on a therapeutic dose of the reversible MAOI (moclobemide) and I had severe hypertensive crisis and almost died when I was eighteen. My heart rate also went up to 180BPM and it was an extremely uncomfortable experience to say the least. Don't do it.
 
don't mix an maoi with amphetamine. actually, don't mix ANYTHING with amphetamine - thee fucking riskiest drug to combine things with, the only things i can see as beneficial would be downers like benzos and opiates....

As far as MAOIs, don't fucking risk it, that combination can kill you
 
If you are taking a monoamine oxidase inhibitor, seek professional advice before taking ANY drug, and I mean ANY drug, ESPECIALLY stimulants. Even alcohol and smoking can have nasty effects on patients receiving an MAOI.
 
I have been doing a little research on tobacco and it sounds like there are some highly selective MAOIs in the plant matter. From what I understand (not allot) it seems like these MAOIs increase the addictive properties of nicotine itself. Would it be realistic to propose that smoking cigarettes could increase the duration and intensity of dextro-amp (dexedrine), or racemic amphetamines? Are MAOIs enzymatic in that they are stereo-selective or are they molecular catalysts?
