(i searched but there wasn't much info on both of my questions. feel free to merge if you mods see it fit, though i would prefer it not be.)
Hi,
I've been on Ritalin/Adderall/and Dexedrine mid july of 09'. I've had ADD my whole life (diagnosed by multiple psychs at different points in my life, i was in denial) and with my performance in school last year i agreed to try something that might help
my doc started me on ritalin at 20mg 2x a day. I tried that for a month and hated it, ritalin left me feeling like shit. So i tried adderall when school started which really helped me, leaving me calm and collected so i could work. I started at 20mg IR twice a day, and then 20mg 3x a day. unfortunately i wasn't sleeping much so i asked if there were any other options, and they let me try dexedrine. I've been using it most every day for the past two months or so and i've noticed an incline in tolerance to a degree that i keep having to up my dose to get desirable effects. I've been using roughly 50-70 mg of dex a day, which would leave most people speedy and strung the fuck out, but it actually calms me down.
I've never done better in my life with school/social/organization skills. I'm a more well rounded person these days and I like it, but it kinda sucks having to take something to be that way.
So now I'm going to wait to go back to the doc to get my script filled for a few weeks, at least thats the plan if tolerance has a chance of lessening in that time.

So my question is, what type of symptoms other than extreme lethargy and lack of motivation will i experience?
My second question is, i'm wondering how long it will take for some of my tolerance to lessen? I've read from some people's posts that dex tolerance never goes down, but i used it in the past and i was able to lose it. I've read some products like magnesium and dxm help lower tolerance, but its a pretty mixed opinion about it.

I'm hoping someone with experience can help. thank you all.

If your doctor is prescribing you those doses you will be fine.

However, if you are self medicating with extra doses then you should talk to your doctor about that. Maybe look at a high dose extended release preparation?

Also, look into taking a Magnesium supplement as 95% of adhd sufferers are deficient.

B. Starobrat-Hermelin and T. Kozielec, ‘The effects of magnesium physiological supplementation on hyperactivity in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD): Positive response to magnesium oral loading test’, Magnes Res, Vol 10(2), 1997, pp. 149-56

Hey man, figured id post since ive been through amphet w/d a few times (takin almost ~160mg of addy/day at one point which is just dumb might I add) and ive 'studied' a lot about tolerance to amphs from personal experience and other peoples accounts. Anyway..

So my question is, what type of symptoms other than extreme lethargy and lack of motivation will i experience?

For me (besides those^) : I ate a TON, I didn't want to go out but instead liked to keep to myself for the first day or so, some cravings for amph, a lot of "sigh, im just bored.", not particularly depressed but not exactly flyin high (hehe).

Don't worry though dude, if you can get over the mild boredom that you'll likely feel then it gets significantly easier each day. Usually in ~2 full days im completely back to my old self. This girl I used to be close with actually was saying how she saw my personality gradually return to its normal self (which she liked).

Regardless, the great thing about amph w/d is that you won't be in extreme physical/emotional pain like a lot of other drugs cause.

I'm wondering how long it will take for some of my tolerance to lessen?

If you are eating right, exercising a little, and sleeping well.. not as long as you'd think actually :) ! In my experience : Taking 1 day off hardly does anything, 2 not so much either, but taking 3 full days off pushes me out of the dip and I actually get some decent euphoria again! Taking 5 days off is even better but I feel like for me once I hit 3-4 days all the ones following add lesser amounts of euphoria to the next high.

I'm tellin you man, take like 5-7 days off and you'll be glad you did because compared to the tolerance highs that severely lack euphoria, you'll be flyin.

One of the most annoying things I find with amphetamine detox's is actually feeling tired and really slow/groggy. You get used to being able to just do away with it, and on detoxing, you actually have to put up with it. No more easy way out. Just get some good sleep before you go cold turkey, keep active, maybe take a couple multi-vit's (especially if they have magnesium in them, as I believe it helps in reducing your tolerance, faster), and you'll live :)

It normally took longer than 5 days to get rid of my tolerance, though.

I was using 200mgs of adderal or 80-140 mgs of dexedrine a day on an average for 3x a week for months...

The withdrawals was 3 days of hell which consisted of immense hunger, suicical thoughts, manic depression, and fatigue...I believe I had mild psychosis...

I now take nothing and get A's and B's in college...PM me for supplements, lifestyle habits, to help ease this process

thank you guys for all the help and advice so far. I'm going cold turkey tomorrow, and at bare minimum i want to go till at least wednesday without anything. I stopped a few months in for two days and i was just really really hungry and not much could make me super happy, i was kind of a zombie.

Sorry for bumping, but i tried to edit hoping it would put me back to the top of the threads but it didnt.
so anyway

I'm about to go to bed. tomorrow i'll wake up and have my first day without stimulants in a while. I'm still on suboxone which should help me and ease some of my irritability but other than that i'll just have to ride it out. about 2 months ago i took a break for two days and over the course of that time i gained three points i ate so much shit. I need to put some more weight back on, as i've last it over the time i've been on ritalin/adderall/dex. I just hope this isnt as bad as i predict it to be.

if anyone else has experience PLEASE add into this thread. thanks.

Stims on top of SSRI's

Hey Pink Cloud,I read aot of your post and others,I post very little latley as I have been trying to recover from numerous addictions...binged on coke for a few months, thought I broke a needle off in my arm a couple of months ago to have my wife carry me to the ER only to send her back home to flush my stash in case cops came to my house and guess what?...the needle in question was just bent 90 degress, not broken after all! boy, what an embassment especially at 51...currently on 4-6 mg sub a day due to opis, oc, H,pills, etc...

but what got my attention is your ritalin use, right now that is my DOC..have hit bottom hugh?....anyway, I notice since my Dr put me on Zoloft due to isuues with my 23rd old daughter that are driving me crazy, I notice the rits don't give me the same efects?...anyone else notice this?..SSRI's effecting others drugs or is it just stims..wasted about 10 opana 40ER this week piling them on top of the subs..quit subs a day or two and got blasted, but more or less wasted 80% of them...typical drug addict, no I take that back, a true addict would not do that, he would do it right, wait 2-3 days then do them, but I am more of the idiot type drug addict, embassement to the kind...my kind of addiction will waste money and drugs rather than do it right and wait...anyway, sorry for the long post, but it has been along time since I surfaced and was wondering if anybody else felt a reduction in stim effects while on SSRI?

that is my question and do other stims apply, meth, adderal, dex..I just have access to rits, and I think I notice less effects since I started obtaining them again and this time on Zolot 50-75 mg...a day

thanks in advance and hello to all B/L's as I have been fighting this desease called addiction at 50, now 51 and on my way to 52 and not many more unless I don't give it all up.....MD...oh,using about 100 mg rits a day, mostly snorting, mixing some in coffee in the AM!

I was on zoloft for a while and there's definitely a difference with stims while i was on the stuff. I don't know what it was exactly, but there was something there. I was on zoloft when i started my opiate use/became heavily addicted and so i can't see that effecting opiates at all. Maybe check drugs.com and then the interactions checker to see if there's something there. I'm sorry about all your trouble with the needle/ER and other things. Drug addiction is a true bitch sometimes.

This is day two off the stims and let me tell you, i feel like a total zombie today. even typing this is tough. Yesterday i was tired and extremely irritable, i got in a fight with my girlfriend, almost broke up a week from being together for two years...luckily it turned out alright.

i went to bed last night around one and had extreme trouble getting up even 12 hours later. I stayed in bed and watched two movies and finally got up around 5 to drive my girlfriend home. i almost fell asleep on the high way (scary i know) but i made it back safe. I hope this doesn't go on forever, it sucks balls.

It should start tailing off pretty soon man. Try and get some excercise, I know it's the last thing you feel like at the moment but it really does help. Also, maybe explain to your girl that your taking a break from prescribed medicine, and that the doc mentioned you might be a little irritable. If she know's it isn't her, and that your not exactly feeling just peachy at the moment, thing's should go a whole lot smoother.

I'm sorry, but I see a big problem brewing here (addiction).

Adderall is meant for ADD, ADHD. The fact that this drug is effecting your entire life, including your personality for the (much) better - i assume this due to the up in dosage - drastic at that.

IF you use adderall to feel good, "well rounded" "more social, happy etc" you will begin to rely on it to be happy.

OK now, for tolerance. I was on Adderall, Vyvanse, Focalin, and Ritalin earlier in my life (not all at the same time) and abused them for the same reasons, they made me feel confident, and helped with so many things. The comedowns however get worse, and without the meds, you get very depressed for awhile.

To lower your tolerance you must decrease your dosage, no other way around it. If you could take a break for at least 2 weeks, you'd have a noticable decrease in tolerance temporarily. ALSO many have suggested taking a Magnesium Vitamin supplement (you can buy it at any pharmacy, common supplement). This is said to help maintain tolerance and lower the speed at which it is built.

Also, never crush it - or say byebye to low tolerance.

If you want a medication less addictive (not really addictive), easier on your body, and helpful, try Provigil. Going from adderall to provigil will be a noticeable difference, no rush or great wonderful feelings. It is, however, a great medication that boosts energy, attention, all that good stuff. Great for depression, and it doesnt leave you feeling dirty like adderall does. I also believe adderall, when taken by adults, at higher doses for a long period of time, probably is not good for your heart in the long run - provigil this would be less of an issue, if an issue at all.

goodluck

I take the stims for ADD. ADD affected my whole life and now that i'm on stuff for it, things have drastically improved. I'm not taking it for mood, though i may have suggested that in my earlier posts. I"m just taking it to improve my unorganized life, and it helps at that. I kinda hate my personality when i'm on the stuff too, it makes me into a robot. I talked to my doc today and i'm gonna stabilize on a dose and stay at that, no ups or downs.
I feel almost fine today

Ive browsed this place on occasion but created an account just to get some tips for getting off amps. Pretty much same story, 120 mg average a day Adderall for far too long, and i keep switching between thinking im a horrible crackhead and then seeing kids actually prescribed that dosage, And theres the whole pediatric dosing thing and im a big dude.

I dont know what to think but i know that as my music career takes off i HAVE to get off this shit, it kills my creativity and i end up wasting hours on the internet most days. I dont know, im very seriously ADD and it really helps but ive gotten stupid with it, i need to take a looooonng time off.

Ive been using a good multi plus fish oil and magnesium and have noticied the magnesium helping, but ive heard of some good nootropics that really do wonders for add people. Anyone have experience with what supplements really work for add'ers? I can manage the 3 days of depression with some medical bud but i worry about long term and being able to establish a better routine without stim help.

Good to be here, i hope to get some much needed help and hopefully give out some too.
