Opioids Amount of time between oxycodone doses to be able to feel effects again...

I was wondering if anyone here could help shed light on this for me through personal knowledge or experience... But for the sake of not wasting any medication and in harm reduction, how much time would be needed in between doses to feel the medication again? Say I took my 10 mg oxycodone at 830 am would I be able to feel another dose at 4pm? would I feel it at all? would you feel more if you waited a full 12 hours? It technically should be almost all the way out within 12 hours correct?

The longer you wait, the harder it will hit you. It depends how big your second dose is, usually taking two equal doses will lead to the second dose being less effective, if I took 10mg in the morning, I'd probably end up taking at least 15-20mg in the afternoon for my second dose.

If you took 10 mg in the morning do you think after 12 hours that taking 7.5 mg would be felt at all 12 hours later? Not looking for the same "intensity" in feeling, just wondering if it will be effective again.

I'm speaking in terms of analgesia/pain killing ability, not abuse.

I am sure you would feel 7.5mg, however it will not be as effective as the morning dose.

It should be, depends on your tolerance which will of course go up over time.

I have to wait at least 6 hours to get full effects again, but as far as pain killing properties even 7.5mg six hours after a 10mg would be effective for at least taking the edge off the pain, if not getting rid of most of it.

Last year I was abusing oxy pretty badly, but I was also taking it for pain as well. Before I blew my tolerance through the roof I was using:

10mg at breakfast (5am)
5mg around lunch (1pm, sometimes sooner)
5mg around supper (5pm)
and 7.5-10mg an hour before bed as needed (didn't always need it).

That kept the pain off all day well enough that I could work on my bum knee. These are just examples btw and based on my "almost virgin" tolerance. Later on I had to double, then triple, these numbers as I started chasing the itch instead of just taking them for pain.

Waiting 12 hours should be fine for you, and you could probably get away with taking it sooner. Just watch that you don't take too much too often or you'll have bigger problems. :)

oxy @ 830 am...what kind of injury did you have?

I don't know about the OP, but I was working as a farm hand last year and taking a 10mg at 5am was nothing unusual. I was scarfing down a full breakfast with it however, I wouldn't advise taking one that early without some food to go a long with it.

I have only mild tolerance from a couple months of once a day 15-25 mgs of oxycodone... I havent used anything in about a week until this morning, am taking them for an infected wisdom tooth but like boost they give as well. I am prescribed..

The 10 mg I took this morning felt perfect and I feel like I would have been mildly nauseous if I took any more. I have low tolerance since quitting daily use.

In that case I was wondering if it now being over 12 hours later, I would feel the same if I took another 10 mg then since it technically should be fully metabolized by now? or would there be less of an effect?

I would like to take one to help me sleep, but as I am only prescribed so many, I dont know if I should hold off till the morning. If it makes a HUGE difference than I will wait, but if I can get almost the same feeling again having waited 12 hours, and still get a good pain free night of sleep then I would prefer to take it tonight. I just dont wanna waste any if It can be of more use later.

I took one at 830 cuz I woke up in alot of pain and I had to work all day so I didnt want to take another till I was off. I had tried to hold off on taking any of these as long as possible but the pain just pushed me a little far today.. Tooth pain really gets me more than any other type it seems.

How many teeth did they pull? I had a wisdom tooth yanked out myself last Monday and only got prescribed T3's (codeine), you're a lucky man. :)

As I said before you could take another 10mgs now and you'll get pain relief mostly equal to this mornings dose but to feel the "full effects" I usually had to sleep (seems to "reset" everything). If I were you I would go ahead and take one before bed if you're in enough pain that you won't be able to sleep without it.

If you can try to make it through your days with something OTC so you can save what you have for those nights. If you're anything like me pain isn't much of an issue until you lay down and attempt to go to sleep.

Thanks for the reply again. They actually haven't pulled the tooth yet, its so infected that they wont until after a course of antibiotics they have me on now. My face swole up huge and my throat swole up really bad as well so they gave me antibiotics and pain killers. I was taking percocet regularly for a couple months for rotator cuff injury though so maybe they prescribed something stronger due to previous use.. but ya night time and first thing in the am are the worst for me. Sleeping is difficult with the pain but so is getting out of bed to face the day haha

Oh, in that case take those antibiotics like you're supposed to and your pain medication as needed. No point in suffering for no reason...I can understand once the tooth is out holding off on taking them but if you have an active infection there is no shame in needing some pain relief.

The antibiotics will help with the pain as well once they have time to do their magic. I just got over my second tooth infection in two years (last one ended with a root canal) so I feel your pain. Once they come out you'll feel like a new man.

Is it a top or bottom tooth that's infected?

In my experience (both as oxy addiction and oxy pain management) redosing with the same dose twice is only equi-potent after about 6 + hours. Analgesia wise the 4-6 hour period is accurate.

In terms of addiction, I always found that redosing required a 15-20 % increase with each dose (during a 24 hour period) so if I took 60mg at noon, it would require about 75 mg to equate the buzz or high or however you refer to it.

Hope this helps

Its on the bottom right side and its making my lymph node swell up too it's awful.. I cant wait till It gets better and they take the tooth out.

Thanks for the input based on your experience Biggdirty01. So in your experience it takes about 24 hours for any same dose to get back to its original effects?
