Ok.. could someone explain to me the difference in serotonin released with ecstasy.. vs dxm, ketamine, and alcohol?

Like compared to ecstasy how much is released for dxm, k alchy?

Oh and how are they different after its release? Like.. doesn't dxm hold it in for longer or something??

THANKSSS

Not every drug releases seratonin

Alcohol effects GABA receptors, k and dxm are nmda receptor antagonists

Yea this is going to be a hard question to answer but know that mdma probably releases the most serotonin out of any other drug. It just floods your brain with massive amounts, the secondary chemicals it works on is dopamine and NE.

I do know that mdma releases roughly 20x more serotonin at once in a down-regulation motion and cocaine is 2-3 times more than normal in a forward motion. Not too sure as far as any other drugs go.

MDMA's roll with serotonin is unique- many other drugs release dopamine, though. As far as I know alcohol, ketamine, weed, and caffiene do not release any serotonin (I could be wrong, there might be info that says they release a small amount.)

Many psychedelics mimic serotonin, or use it as a catalyst- it's possible some release it too.

Sorry, that doesn't answer your question =) but as far as I know, the release of large amounts of serotonin is exclusive to the entactogen family.

well said, coke, crack, hero(if i recall correctly) and morphine all work by releasing dopamine in your brain and those are only the ones I PERSONALLY know about.

Mdma is clearly a unique drug by the way it works compared to other strong euphoric drugs and so many things are being learned about it still!

mdma yes it is very much one of the biggest 5-ht(serotonin) antagonist, along with 5-IAI and other new drugs that are serotonin releasing agents, i do believe that mdma releases surges of serotonin and then slows the re-uptake

What about mephedrone? I find it hard to believe that mephedrone isn't a potent serotonin releaser as well otherwise it would just be another methylone...

i dont think alcohol releases seratonin.
I think how drugs work are extremely complex and vary from person to person depending on there genes.

i mean take weed for example for some it is safe for others it seems to trigger psychosis - think it is to do with dopamine.

ecstasy basically opens the flood gates for seratonin however.

alcohol works on GABA sites in the brain, mephedrone is more on the dopamine and norepinephrine sites, methylone is slightly a serotonergic drug but none the less one indeed

fairys and gigglin monkeys make me bannans so i need some adivan or my hyplaqckea ventricularizm is going to explode!!!

I will add that alcohol most definitely does cause serotonin release which is much more responsible for its good effects along with gaba playing a minor role and dopamine as well.

I wish more was known about mephedrone because it's quite a fascinating drug. I just took some the other night (first time in a year) and I find it hard to believe it isn't heavily serotonigenic. That rush when it hits feels so much like MDMA it's nearly indistinguishable. An experienced roller will feel the differences. I'm not a very experienced roller however I've rolled on MDMA and MDA enough times to know how it feels, and I most certainly could feel the difference in the rush. Don't get me wrong though, I was still on the dance floor, pulling my gf's hair telling her I feel like I just came in my pants. :)

However, when the rush wears off (~20-30 minutes), it doesn't feel much like MDMA at all. Much more like a steady coke buzz. I could see it releasing serotonin upon the initial come up, however I don't think it inhibits reuptake for the duration of the high because then it would feel just like MDMA the whole time. When I take molly, the come up hits and then that same feeling slowly calms down, sticks around for a few hours, and then wears off. Mephedrone on the other hand feels like a completely different drug once the rush is over. At that point, it feels nothing like MDMA.

The (very uneducated) conclusion I draw from this is it acts somewhat on serotonin for a short while but moreso on dopamine for the duration while it's in your system. I'm no chemist/neurologist so this could be completely false.
