Opioids Ammount of phosphate in codeine phosphate

Hi guy, This is my first post in this forum. I registered because there is something I can´t find the answer in google.

I read everywhere that pure codeine is not very toxic by itself, but we addicts take large ammounts of mostly codeine phosphate. It worries me that a large part of the tiny white pills is phosphate, and it may cause some kind of damage over the long term.

Phosphate is perfectly safe to ingest, it's a required nutrient for storing energy (adenosine triphosphate or ATP is the main cellular energy source). Your bones and teeth have calcium phosphate in them. Coca-Cola and other soft drinks use phosphoric acid (hydrogen phosphate) as an acidifying agent. Phosphates are also used as cleaning and buffering agents.


The molar mass of codeine phosphate (3 codeine freebase molecules to 1 phosphoric acid) is 995.6 AMU, of which only 98 AMU is the phosphate. That's less than 10% by mass of your codeine dose in phosphate content (10mg of codeine phosphate = 1mg phosphate). You get way more than that from a glass of cola.
