for general anxiety which of these are better
are either similar to xanax? unfortunately the doc can only provide a limited (2 week supply) of xanax but has offered amitriptyline or mirtazapine for when they run out
not sure which one to pick and if either have any nice mellow effects similar to benzos?

this prob should have been posted in mental health forum, apologies - pls feel free to move if it makes sense.

Neither of them are similar to xanax in any way.

Personally I don't have experience with either of those, but I believe mitrazapine is more sedating and probably better anxiolytic for that reason.

IME amitriptyline is useless.. it apparantly has off label use a sedative, but not for me though.

Mirtazapine was better, but mostly hit or miss.

They are both antidepressants, but I only have experience with them off label.
Amitriptyline is a 1. Generation tricyclic - Mirtazapine is an atypical antidepressant.
