I realize there's a barrage of others to choose from, but from these two TCA's, does anyone know either by firsthand [or secondhand] experience, which would be best for treating an anxiety problem. Again, I realize that everyone is different, but if anyone knows of a study which was done wherein it might possibly show which of the two [or another TCA not mentioned here] worked best as an anxiolytic.

Thanks in advance.

Amitryp is always gonna make you sleepy as fuck... Don't know much about the other.

^ Doxepin makes amitriptyline seem like a stimulant by comparison. The drug best exemplifies the 'next day zombie' effect of TCA's. I imagine that it'd be an effective way of treating GAD & depression, but the first few weeks of taking it are going to be like the night of the living dead (well it was for me - I've gone through quite a few TCA's in order to find one that treats my SAD without making me even more lethargic during the winter)

Yes, I have noted that elavil is not nearly as sedating as sinequan.

I have also looked up things here and there [in books..so I can't cite, alas] and see that there have been less TD episodes reported with doxepin than amitriptyline...although that might simply be due to the fact that the latter is used more often. It might be that incidence is greater in doxepin as far as percentage goes.

So far I shall stick to doxepin as I have problems falling asleep as well, and it helps with that. Also it has more APs qualities than does amitriptyline, which could be good for 'leveling things out' and helping with anxiety....no? We'll have to see.
