The Synthesis of naldixic acid looks not that difficult. Maybe 4 steps.

A nice BLer sent me the naxadelic acid synthesis. It's about 25% yield overall. Just swap the initial compounds methyl with a benzyl and off you go. I think the synth is translated from the Russian, but it's a good, well done effort.
I would like to thank them.

The problem is the starting material, 6-benzyl-2-aminopyridine, which is not commercially available and hard to make.
