American Pill Poppers--it seems like so many Americans are medicated, do you agree?

I'm not sure how the rest of the developed world is, but it seems as if in America everybody is on some kind of Mood Altering substance whether it is Prozac, Xanax, Adderall, or any of the other crazy drugs they got out there. This isn't even including the illegal drugs. To me it seems that for most of the illegal drugs out there, there is a pharmaceutical company that makes a product that is extremely similar - Adderall for the speeders, Oxy's for Heroin.

Anyone else feel this way? It would be interesting to see a figure on what percentage of Americans are medicated...
 
Oh, hell yeah, and I think that this is part of the reason why scoring pills never feels like too big a deal to me. Everyone and their mother is prescribed something. So who cares? I'll drive around with enough prescription painkillers to put me away, but I never feel anxious or anything. Yet, driving around with two bags of heroin scares the living hell out of me.
 
When you consider the price people pay for the medicines out there in the states it's a wonder they dont prescribe cocaine for toothache.
 
It's all about who gets paid, as Chris Rock once said..if the best cocaine came from America it would be legal lol.
 
I think a majority of people from the United States are on something, OTC, legally prescribed or illegal. All the prescription downers/uppers/painkillers that are floating around have to have come from somewhere. Sure, a small percentage comes from pharmacy theft, but I'm sure a much larger percentage comes mommy's medicine cabinet theft.
 
Practically my whole family is on Xanax, legally prescribed. Dr.'s (some) like their script pads, and patients like their pills. America is a playground of pharmaceuticals. My guess is that most of america is pretty well medicated, factoring in all of those with ADD, chronic pain, anxiety etc.
 
Skylines--Try and make your thread titles a lil more specific, so that they describe the topic you are talkin about. "American Pill poppers" dont really give that much info about wat the topic of the thread is and the shit you are discussing inside, and alot of folks, they decide whether or not to click on a thread based on the title. so you wanna make it as specific as you can so that people dont miss out on a good thread and skip over it becuz the title dont catch their interest and they got no idea wat the threads about.

Also, you gotta remember that lots of people search in our search engine, to look for threads they might be interested in, or to see if the thread that they are considering making already been made in the past. so you wanna make your thread title include the keywords that are relevant to the topic for anybody who is searching in the future, too. If somebody was lookin for a thread about how many americans are on pills and medications and shit, they prolly would not think of "American pill poppers" but they might search for words like "medication, medicated, prescriptions, pill/pills" etc.

I added onto your title to make it more informative and that can give you some idea of how to create a good descriptive thread title in the future:)

Agreed.

If a doctor doesn't script you what you want, you can move on until you find one that does. I think that a lot of doctors realize this, so they know that if they want to keep you as a patient/customer, they need to keep you satisfied.

I think that this is applies especially to psychiatrists for several reasons. Many of them view their job as just providing meds, and referring the patient to psychologists. In my visists to psychiatrists, I have gotten meds, but only 2 of them out of the 5 have actually spoken to me each visit.

The second reason is that is seems as though psychiatrists are not being targeted by the DEA as much as the pain management doctors. I could be wrong, but it seems as though they don't care if a bunch of pills are thrown at "crazy" people, whereas pain patients are often viewed as "drug seeking."
 
America is a marketing powerhouse, and the laws concerning the marketing of perscription medications is written by the drug makers lobbists.
 
Prescribed amphetamines are unheard of in my country, and I think even in Europe - it's an american thing that never ceases to astonish me.
 
I do think the amount of amphetamines/amphetamine like substances prescribed here in America is rather ridiculous, especially when a lot of the patients being prescribed them are little kids. Not healthy.
 
For pain we are under medicated. It seems impossible to get adequate pain relief.
For everything else hell yeah we are over medicated for sure. Can't debate that. I'm on 4 medications but I really do have problems that require it because I have ADD. If I don't have my Desoxyn AND Adderall then I won't be able to get my school work done!
