EMD Ambient & all it's sub genres

The classic ambient album, always coming out on top and my personal favourite

never heard that, sounds cool, just had a strong hash edible and am gonna give that album some major attention on some great speakers in a couple of hours :)

here's some late 70's cosmic trippy hippy ambient sounds...you gotta listen to the whole thing really...I can vouch for this a being perfect dmt soundtrack too

Yes I love that about ambient albums where the whole album is a journey almost or a trip

The album I posted is definitely a trip. The whole thing just flows and you're on this journey through cold glaciers, mountain terrain like you travelled to the beyond and bump into a tribe in the middle of nowhere. Some nostalgic sounds also

i'm a big fan of downtempo and ambient

my favourites include:

alasdair

Love both albums, the klf would drift me off to sleep. I think that album that comes on top as one of the best on par with substrata

love ambient, very versatile genre

this album, and the danish label janushoved

have been getting a lot of love from me as of late

more typical ambient, but very emotional, sangam is talented

hmmm it's almost ambient, had the immense pleasure of 'experiencing' this crew live at their creative peak

this is a vibe, cats are well known to love this tune for some reason, haha

Ambient 1 music for airports is my go to sleep album, that piano is just so comforting

I used to love this back in the day, still got the double cd lying somewhere which got played I don't know how many times.
This came out in '92, my first exposure to IDM well I call it that even though it's more house/ambient, the experimental side of electronic music.

This is the first proper IDM album imo.

Gotta have a proper essential mix, they're rank these days.

Nearly forgot about Phaeleh dubstep/ambient like

chillstep or atmospheric d&b I think this is called suicidesheep

He's got a whole playlist of mixes for midnight fun.

THen you have dub techno, not posting that in the techno thread.

The Mary Anne Hobbs experimental show used to be ace. 2-4am I used to stay up late working with this. She introduced me to Burial and Four Tet.

I'm unfortunately still compelled to skip the insufferably syrupy minute or two around the 29-minute mark, but aside from that there's some nice deconstructed trance from the Ellesmere Port lad and then gorgeous reverbed expanses from the French lass.

its a great album. Click for good times.

Warm, haunting, delirious, driving and euphoric.

Just brilliant, and although I've seen Huerco S live, I somehow had never heard this album, so cheers for that.

listening to Biosphere now, and it's cool that it has some guitar. i don't often hear a lot of that... i don't know much about ambient. i was always told brain eno is the best. he's pretty chill, but kind of boring. i like some of brain eno's pop music a bit more, but i have a bunch of his cds both ambient and pop. i think "ambient 4 on land" album is my favorite of the ambient stuff... i was tripping pretty hard listening to music for air ports a couple times, and it's pretty awesome. i used to put his ambient stuff in a 5 disk changer with stuff like alice coltrane, and sometimes boards of canada or the books.

i haven't heard a lot of the stuff in this thread. i don't check out everything everyone posts on blue light, but this is a pretty interesting thread to me. i dont think i cought it when it started.

i was talking about how i was listening to college radio and this kid just played a bunch of older sounding ambient techno on this board a few times, and he just didn't announce what he was playing, so i figured i'd catch it another time, but no one ever played the same stuff. i thought to search "ambient techno" and stuff like "retro ambient techno" on you tube. i think my second search got me this:

i wouldn't even say the recording is ambient. it's kind of rock driven, and not really techno at all.. the music i was hearing on the radio had similar sounding synths as far as you can tell they are older than a lot of stuff bands like boards of canada use, but the music i heard on the radio totally had ambient/techno beats that you'd hear from bands today.. i wish i knew what it was.. i think i talked about this on reddit and no one has any idea what i'm talking about.

they used to have this spiritual talk show on the same college radio station "music for humans". they'd play a lot of ambient music in the back ground. anybody can check their older broadcasts on http://www.musicforhumanbeings.com/ if you you tube "music for humans/wmbr" someone might fall in love with the host aurora's voice on the one clip they have and want to listen to these old broadcasts. a lot of them with her are the newer ones where the hosts aren't labeled. i posted that you tube clip in another thread i did about ASMR, but that show does a lot of ambient stuff while they are talking. the theme song they always use is pretty cool... i actually made an mp3 of her doing meditative ASMR type stuff with no other hosts on the show one time, and i have it on a flash drive. i have a bunch of other weird stuff i feel like should be on the internet. web space has gotten even cheaper over the years, so sometime i'll link an mp3 people can download for free of the lady aurora hosting that show.. i'm gonna get some webspace again in a few years when i have to move into smoke free housing. i guess i'll just link the you tube clip, although it's not really ambient music. this ladies voice just has the same effect to me as some ambient:
