ok i've taken ambien a whole shit load of times and I still can't decide whether I like it or not..some of the experiences i've had were completely mindblowing, and i've never had to take more then 2 pills, most of the time 1 did the trick just fine... (10 mg pills)

What I dont understand is, how come sometimes you get sooo fucked up that nothing makes sense, and everything is moving and spinning and you feel like an alien plus everything feels like you dreamt it the next day.. and other times you dont feel anything, nothing at all... not even a lil bit.. I thought that perhaps it could be cause you're not moving around or watever, cause that seemed to have some effect on how high you got.

I dont know, does anybody else have any idea as to why this happens?

This drug is so wierd, nearly ever experience i've had with taking it felt like it was a different drug, its never really been the same. Only a few times.

Also, i dont know what people are talking about when they say you build a tolerance to it, it seems like the more you take it, the more fucked up you get.

peace and much love to all,

- tr6

p.s. i do not care for anybody ridiculing me for taking ambien or telling me how much it sucks, please dont post that shit in here, all I want to know is why you only get high sometimes and other times theres nothing or a totally different feeling.

Someone once told me that you can get visuals and end up in some sort of trip while on Ambien... maybe you can clarify whether or not this is true?

I hear that they use this drug as a sleep aid so I figure its bullshit, but then again, you can also use Benadryl as a sleep aid, and hell, that isn't really a pleasant trip at all...

Ambien most definately DOES cause some weird experiences, and even hallucinations in some cases. When I used to take 5 mgs to sleep, I remember seeing the different strokes of paint in my ceiling swirl and create images before I was ever aware of its recreational potential.

To answer your question, I think food plays a HUGE role in how well it affects you. I have taken it after long breaks and have not felt it at all, while some nights I take it and feel it almost immediately. I cant think of anything else that might affect it, all I do know is that it does happen and you're definatley not the only one. Do a search, theres many other threads on this.

Well I have never taken this. But am interested so I have done some searchs on here about it.

You seem to take this drug alot, from what I've read you build a tolerence very quickly to these.

You say you take it one time its great then another its not. Are you taking it the next night?

theres tons of info out here if you look

ambien is a weird drug and has been compared in studies, similiar to valium and I can see why.

1) after ingesting a 10 mg pill I started hallucinating vividly and freaked out calling a pharmacist to see if this reaction was normal.
2) another time, i was coming down a 3 day meth binge and took an ambien and just pleasantly drifted to sleep witout any hallucinations.

valium is the same for me. depending on how amped i am the way my body metabolizes it, is differnent. sometimes fucking me up, sometimes not. as far as ambien's drug class. it's a non benzodiazepine hypnotic but, has been proven to be as addicting as valium.

I have a script for Ambien (10 mg.) and have been taking it off and on about a year and a half. The stuff definately is wierd. 10 mg for me even still is enough to sometimes make me feel like I am in another world, slightly disconnected from my body, and minor movement in still objects.

Other times, I feel nothing and stay awake. The times where it seems to not do much for me at all is if I take it during the day, or with a large meal. If I did just eat a big dinner or whatnot, I'll try and drink a beer or glass of wine with it if I plan to take an Ambien to sleep soon after.

Ambien and alcohol mixed on an empty stomach for me does not increase any hallucinogenic effects.

Basically the stuff kinda sucks if you get in the routine of taking it often to sleep.. you find it hard to sleep without it.

damn why doesnt cool shit like tha happen to me when I take sleeping pills =(

Because you don't take Ambien dummy, you take Xanax or those pills you buy at the gas station.

Ambien can and will send you for a loop

Over a year ago I decided it would be a good idea to take 20mg Ambien and go for a hike through a state park. Anyway to make a long story short other hikers noticed me talking to trees and acting rather bizarre. Eventually someone called the police on me and it all went down hill from there 8o

You gain a tolerance to ambien rather quickly so I would recommend you only take it for recreational use no more than once a week.

White flag

Its definitely not bullshit, sometimes I trip like crazy off of it, all kinds of crazy visuals, color and shape distortion, even OBE in some cases, i've never taken benadryl to trip, so i really couldn't make an accurate comparison between the two..

There have been times where i've taken ambien where it was extremely pleasant almost like a roll with not that many hallucinations or with a lot of hallucinations, other times it was extremely unpleasant, everything about it felt shitty and i felt extremely nauseous, even threw up sometimes. Other times, i've taken it, i didn't trip at all. I've never taken more then 20mgs, and i've only taken 20 a few times, those times weren't much different from just taking 10 which is what my usual dose is. I've never taken less then 10.

Thanx for your reply, I've considered the food factor. I've taken it on an empty stomach, on a full stomach, on a kinda full stomach. Doesn't seem to have any effect. Sometimes I trip on a full stomach, sometimes I dont. Same for every other way. I've looked around in other threads. Also wats wierd, is sometimes it kicks in within 5 minutes like you said, and sometimes it takes hours.

I dont take it a lot, i get it every once in a while a few pills of it. I usually dont take it two nights in a row because that results in me feeling extremely shitty on the third day most of the time. I feel like i'm still on it when I wake up, like the feeling in my head is still there somewhat, and the train of thought stais similar.

Most of the time when i take it two nights in a row, it is usually a lot more intense the second or the third night. It seems like the more you take it, the more fucked up you get. I dont know about this whole tolerance thing.

A lot of people I know didn't feel shit the first couple of times they took it, and then the second or third time it fucked them up majorily. Sometimes it took even more then 3 or 4 times, and most people give up after 2 as it seems pointless to keep doing it after that.

I have taken this drug approximately 50-80 times, maybe more, stretched out over a period of 2 and 1/2 years. From what I have seen from my experience with it, there is no tolerance really, and you just keep getting more and more fucked up everytime you take it, plus food doesn't seem to affect it. The only thing that seems to affect it a lot is sleep deprivation. If you haven't slept for a while and you take it and stay up, you seem to get a whole lot more fucked up.

I've looked around, did some searching didn't find anything of relevance to this topic specifically, only discussion of the drug not this particular aspect of it (why its different nearly everytime).

.....been proven to be as addicting as valium.

This is true, it is extremely addictive from what I have seen. Never really been addictive or anybody I know except for one person, who just craves it like crazy and wants to take that shit all the time, even though he barely gets his hands on any ever.

If you take it a couple of times and dont goto sleep eventually you will just start feeling like shit, and will not want to take it anymore. It will quickly start fucking with you and your mind, and you will stop taking it... at least it does so with me and most other people I know that have taken it.

That is true, but just dont get into taking it every night, and you will be fine. When i take it to goto sleep it has never failed me. Half hour later I pass the fuck out, and wake up feeling like i just got the best sleep I have ever had since the last time I took it. Unless it was only for a couple of hours. If you're going to take this drug to sleep make sure you sleep a good 7 or more hours.

Also, same goes for pretty much any other sleeping aid. After you get used to sleeping with any of them, its hard to goto sleep without them. I only take it if I need to get to sleep early but I can't, because I allready slept a lot that day or watever... or if i just can't fall asleep for whatever reason.

first of all, i'm sorry to hear about what happened to you as a result of this drug, look at it this way thought... you learned your lesson didn't you ?? ;)

You gain a tolerance to ambien rather quickly so I would recommend you only take it for recreational use no more than once a week.

I dont know about this whole tolerance thing, but then again I've never taken it for more then 10 days in a row, and it wasn't for recreational use during those 10 days.

The most I ever took it in a row for recreational use was 3 days, and I got so much more fucked up on the second day then i did on the first, and even more fucked up on the 3rd day. I had slept and ate fine, all 3 of these days. Same amounts, and same food pretty much.... so i dont really know..

Personally I would recommend even taking it for recreational use even once a week. If you're going to take it, I say you dont need any more then 20 mgs and you dont need to take it more then 2 days in a row, after that it starts to fuck with your head if you're doing it recreationally. At least it did for me...

If somebody is curious about trying this drug, I say go for it... be safe dont take anymore then 20 mgs ever, because you'll never need it, dont do it more then 2 nights in a row, dont it do more then once every two months, or it will just get boring or annoying..

If you have a bad experience, try it again, it seems to be different everytime, i've had a lot of bad and good experiences with it..

ok well, i'm off to sleep...

thanx to all of you for your time and your replies, :)

peace and much love to all,

I'll add a few things.

I've been taking Ambien on and off now for a few years. When I first started taking it, 5mgs would put me straigt to sleep. I was never groggy when I woke up in the morning so it was the only sleeping pill I liked to take.

However, after several months something changed. I would get hallucinations before I fell asleep. Often I'd feel like I was drowning. I thought it was really unpleasant and stopped taking it for a while.

Eventually I started having serious sleeping problems again. And I found that if I stayed up and waited for the Ambien to make me tired that I'd start hallucinating. But if I layed down I'd just fall to sleep.

My use of Ambien has continued like this over the years. I only use it during times when I have extreme insomnia. And even if I go months without it, I still require more now than I used to. I need at least 10mgs to sleep, sometimes 15mgs.

If I lay down, I can always fall asleep. But usually I won't fall asleep if I'm doing something waiting for it to make me tired. If I stay awake, sometimes nothing happens. Other times I hallucinate. Some nights 15mgs will do nothing. Other times 10mgs will cause massive hallucinations or put me to sleep. I've looked at a lot of factors and can't figure out why it works so differently one night from the next.

I find the experience to be more disociative-like than classic psychedelic. Things look different, but it's not like I'm seeing colors or patterns. I forget things. Often I'll have this sense that something is about to happen or I'll believe I was waiting for something to happen before it kicked in. There's been two occassions where I forgot how I got messed up and thought I must have taken ketamine. I've forgotten where I was. I've forgotten my name. My dad has found me wandering around the house talking to myself (basically thinking out loud) before. And I draw some of the most crazy and insane stuff on Ambien.

Also, in the past I had posted on BL that I really disliked Ambien and thought anyone taking it for recreational purposes was ridiculous. Well, while I still wouldn't take it for recreational purposes, if I start hallucinating on it, I make the most out of it. I love waking up in the morning and looking at what I drew and wrote the night before.

Ambien was previously sold online from foreign pharmacies who carried it as "Dalparan". It was made illegal for OTC sale there (Europe) thanks to people using it for hallucinogenic purposes, so no this isn't bullshit. You can't get it nearly as easily or cheaply now, which sucks, because you could buy it for about 0.50 a dose instead of the $2 it costs in the USA. It is almost as effective as xanax or valium after rolling or tweaking if you aren't tolerant to it.

As someone who takes it as a sleep aid, it works well. You will have some very realistic bizzare dreams though. I'm still amazed at that effect sometimes.

It would be my advice to quit while you are ahead with ambien. It can cause some seriously whacked things to you. And the worst part about it for myself would be that you dont remember it.

A few weeks ago I took 2 ambiens 20mg (have severe natural sleep disorder) and instead of it sedating me and sending me into a peaceful slumber it had the opposit effect. After 2-3 days of no sleep studying for midterms I was amped!!! This is where the trouble started. Aparently I started telling my folks that the FBI was after me and outside. My father was very disturbed by this (i'm always level headed and inteligent) and it landed me a trip to the ER. Without me really knowing I took somewhere in the area of 10 pills. I must have kept forgetting how much I took and whilst unable to sleep kept taking more..
