I've been taking 5-10 mg.s of Ambien per night for nearly 4 months now. The reason I got on Ambien in the first place was to help me sleep better during my PAWS from opiates and relief from my RLS. I've been off of opiates for exactly 4 months now. I just quit Ambien cold turkey 2 days ago. But now I'm reading that Ambien withdrawals resemble those of benzo withdrawals. Is this right and am I in for another 3-4 months of PAWS from my fucking Ambien? If not, then exactly how long?

P.S. Also need a remedy for severe RLS.

LeJunk, ambien is pretty light weight compared to traditional benzo's. Do you have access to a health food store??

I tapered from klonopin to valium and have been off for 2 months now, and can sleep for 12 hours a night, no drinking, nothing.

Here's what you need to get, and I swear by this. Valeriene root (EXTRACT) comes in a bottle, there's a bunch of different types. This stuff helped me sleep when I came off valium and really works! Just remember you want the extract.

Buy some sleepytime tea, it also has valerien and chamomile and somthing else that really helps.

Honestly you should expect to start getting re-bound rem sleep. Which is a deeper sleep. You might go to bed and wake up at 2 in the morning then toss and turn and only sleep another hour. Gradually lets say a week later it's 330, then 530, then 730. Your body is going to bounce back to normal.

And like I said ambiens light weight and you were only on it for 4 months. Get the extract and the tea, and you should be back to normal in a month. I got a major buzz sorry if this is confusing haha.

Thanks for the advice and congrats on being benzo free. I'll swing by Wild Oats today to grab some valerien root extract and chamomile tea. Any suggestions for a cure for severe RLS?

I am currently 70 days clean from opiates and experiencing PAWS myself (coming off of six years of opiates/suboxone with a 2 month break about a four years ago).

But there are ways I have found that I can dramatically reduce my PAWS.

Loperamide is the best. I have avoided lope as well for the last two months as I began to find it rather euphoric and addictive, but low doses (30mg or so every five days or so (by low I mean low in a recreational sense)) made a huge difference in my PAWS and RLS. I suggest only using it once or, at the most, twice a week, as it will cause it's own withdrawal syndrome if overused - and that withdrawal is very much like suboxone WD. Also, it makes it hard to shit, as one would imagine.

Phenibut also works wonders for PAWS and RLS. But, again, the trick is to only do it once a week or else you will have another addiction to deal with.

So maybe 30mg of lope on Monday, then 1.5 g (or whatever works best for you) of phenibut on Thursday. Stick to that and I bet your RLS will be reduced by 75% over the course of each week.

I was on Ambien following a back surgery for 6 months...after being on Perc's, Flexeril, and Fentanyl patches...after being on a morphine drip for 2 weeks. The withdrawal from the pain meds was awful...but the Ambien was a breeze.
