Ambien... What to expect?

Taking Hydrocodone and dealing with Scoliosis surgery pain has rendered me with insomnia. Thus, today I was prescribed Ambien (Zolpidem). I'm aware of the effects it could cause after researching Erowid, but I have some questions for those who have used this drug.

1.) What to initially expect - What will I fell like/see?

2.) What is the best way to prepare for the "Trip"?

3.) What to avoid other than Alcohol.

I hope i'm following the guidelines here, i'm always trying my best to ensure that i'm following the rules on Bluelight.

Thank you all!

First question : did you use the search function? I know there are MANY posts/threads on here about ambien and first time user questions: doses, what to expect, how to use it... etc.

Prepare? Do your research. Read other experiences. Try Erowid as well. Experience is the best way. Start 'simply' - don't overdo it. You can always take more, but once you take 'too much'...well, that's that, eh!? haha.

Avoid alcohol, other respiratory depressants, CNS depressants. Just, as a general rule - avoide mixing, for overall safety. Experience it on its own so that you can really feel it for what it is.

Be careful, people(including me) have ended up in some pretty weird places and situations after taking Ambien recreationally.

You may want to consider a trip sitter for your first time.

If you need it for insomnia, I would take it as prescribed. Tolerance can build to Ambien, and you don't want to remove it as a tool to help you sleep just for the sake of "tripping" from it.. or at least I wouldn't!

ambien is not very recreational, beyond making going to bed feel sooo good.

taking your prescribed dose at night and trying to stay up a little bit before bed to see what it feels like would be understandable. of course i am not recommending that. trying to abuse your ambien beyond that would be silly, disappointing, and potentially regrettable.

Actually ambien is very enjoyable if you eat three to five, and let them kick in ..then smoke some weed :) You get lsd like visuals, and feel like you are on cloud nine. Don't do any other drugs or Alcohol..!! Hang out with good friends that will look out for you, and please don't drive.! I love this combo ambien/weed ..and I try to do it a few times a year. Just be safe, and like I said hang with someone you trust, and you will have a good time.

Sounds like you actually need the ambien so I wouldn't be using it recreationally. But if you insist I don't really thinik you need to prepare for it unless your taking alot. In lower doses it's not really anything overwhelming (IME). Just take it and pretend like you didn't take anything and after like an hour you'll probably know its doing its thing.

Be careful not to take too much it can really end up bad. Try to keep it lower than 30mgs. Stay safe!
