Ambien - Sleep aid? Not in my case...

I popped 3-4 Ambien the other night and had a really fucked up trip. There was only 2 people in my house at the time (my parents) and I was sure there were more than 20 people in my living room. I kept seeing dark figures darting around and conversing with each other frantically. I started feeling sick and I tried to walk up the stairs, only to find that they were upside down and black and white, straight out of an M.C. Escher painting. When I finally got to the top of the staircase after which seemed like hours later, I looked down at my living room and a figure resembling Satan was sitting politely on my couch. Even for an atheist things were getting a bit creepy! This scared the living shit out of me so I ran into my bedroom where I became hysteric and woke up my parents who were convinced I'd taken 10 hits of acid. After a failed attempt to make my parents believe I wasn't on anything, I finally fell asleep.
Obviously I took more than the prescribed dosage, but judging from accounts I've heard from other people who have taken the proper dosage, this popular sleeping aid can produce some strange unexpected abnormal feelings and behavior.
I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has had any similar experiences with this drug...

This has been reported many times before. I still have no idea how Ambien could have psychedelic properties. As far as I know, it affects GABA just like any other benzo.

Ambien is considered a "hypnotic", and I'm not really sure what that is.

The hallucinations are wierd. I took 10mg a few nights ago, and about 30 minutes later, I was lying in the bed with the lights off. It feels like other people are in the room (even though I'm alone), talking with each other, very unusual. Then I fell asleep. Hypnotic means sleep-inducing.

Ambien definitely can produce some strange effects. After 5-6 (5mg) one night, I became convinced that there were hidden cameras throughout my parent's house that were spying on me. I searched and searched, but could never find them. The grand finale occured when I was crawling around on the floor speaking to a towel.
When I finally fell alseep, I woke up experiencing the worst sleep paralysis/terror that I have ever experienced followed by 2 days of deep depression. Needless to say, I stay away from ambien now. Just the thought of taking ambien again makes me sick to my stomach.

i just wanna know how different (or how similiar) ambien is to the OTC Anticholinergics/Antihistamines like dramamine and benydril

okay not to dis you ppl or anything but jesus fuckin christ...you dont get vivid halucinations from ambien...maybe im just too "normal" to have this happen to me, but i have also taken upwards of 20 - 40 mg...and fucked if i saw anything but my eyelids closing...
okay and when i desperatly try to stay awake after about a half hour, im wide awake and life just seems to have a very (omg dont do, no im gonna) AMBIEN sort of feel or Placid for lack of better terms to describe it...but very laid back in almost an eerie way...minor altorations in visual patterns prolly cuz your body thinks it's fuckin sleepin tho,
and for the kid who saw the devil lookin figure with the horns, did you acidentally switch your "pure adrenochrome" with your "sleeping aid", cuz i often do this, so maybe u should check
okay so only ppl who saw fear and loathing in las vegas will understand that but it sounds oh too similar to some gonzo journalism...and they were actually doing real drugs.
well minus the whole adrenochrome thing
lol

All other stupid comments aside, this post should be removed for the simple fact that it mentions Fear and Loathing in Los Vegas, which explains the quality of the comments I guess.

Your obviously a jackass nogirlsaloud....There have been a very large amount of people reporting vivid hallucinations and feelings of being watched while under the influence of Ambien.
About 3 weeks ago I took 30mgs of Ambien (only thought they were 5mg pills but were 10) and ended up tripping my brains out. I was watching TV and everyone on it had a ridiculous amount of eyes, ears, noses....etc...it was quite the experience...I ended up passing out mid sentence and waking up on the floor later on... This shit can most definately cause strong hallucinations when taken in excess.

gotta love how people love to dis "greenlighters", guess im not hip like you guys....or maybe i dont want to be...and let's think about it, do you really think this boy saw the devil anywhere but in his dreams that night...
and abra, the validness of my statement is based on a movie i have seen...how do you get so god damned close minded it sounds to me like bluelight has turned you into a fool.

wat is it with ambien?? when i take it i dont see shit, but i always feel like there are people around.. i wonder what it is that makes you feel like there are people around very fuken strange
the only other thing was my shoulders bang into walls when i go around a corners.. eh

Yummy Ambien, I really like it, but I dont get vidid halucinations(not yet) I have similar experience to the people who said that they feel like some one is in the room with them. But I think the difference between 15 and 25 mgs can really make a difference. With 10 mgs I just feel like the world is peaceful(Hence Ambien) and with 20 mgs I stumble a little and get weird slowing feel going. Ambien is some weird shit and should be respected, so if you start talking to shit dont take that much again, atleast I wouldn't I dont like being delerious.
Well Have Fun! I know I will I just got a refill. Peace

nogirlsallowed-
YOU are the one being closed minded ("jesus fuckin christ...you dont get vivid halucinations from ambien"), and you say you base what you know on a movie you saw?? WTF???

travis, please take a look at my statement one more time before you start throwing accusations around...i was upset with someone else cuz they based the VALIDNESSS OF MY STATEMENT ON A MOVIE I HAVE SEEN, i dont BASE MY OPPINION ON A MOVIE I HAVE SEEN..
i can tell you just like jumping on the bandwagon but seriously now, think before you speak.

I'm a green lighter, and you're talking SMACK about my post. heh j/k but yes, I did see a figure resembling the devil sitting on my couch. I have no reason to lie about that. Hell, I don't even believe in the devil. Ambien is a pretty strong sleeping pill, and it effects people in different ways. So don't question the validity of my posts. Oh, and I love how you label me a "boy"... lol pretty funny.
Anyway, I tried 20mg of Ambien again to study the effects and the same thing happened. I felt like someone was sitting behind me watching me type. I was trying to talk to a friend and the words I was typing kept falling off the screen. Weird shit. ;D
