First off, is there any way to take the coating off the generic zolpidem CR pills to effectively make them just normal ambiens? also, 12.5mg does a crap job of putting me to sleep. if any of you take ambien to sleep, how much of it generally does the job? thanks.

I bet you can grind the CR pills to make them IR, but don't quote me on that

Some people don't respond to zolpidem very much, or at all. 20-30mg of zolpidem should get you pretty wiped, but if that doesn't work my advice is to try another drug like doxylamine.

To my knowledge, you can't make zolpidem time release into instant release, but I've never done ambien CR, just the IR version.

Zolpidem (and all Z-drugs) are really shitty IMO. It doesn't put me to sleep, just makes me trip in a bad way.

you can crush the cr pills. i used to snort ambien. personally i found it crap as a sleep aid but 20mg at first or 50mg or so with tolerance led to some interesting hallucinations. one time i was on ambien and i saw a monkey dancing on my dads car.

My mom used to get them in 10mg and that would always do the trick if i was tired and actually tried to sleep, and it didn't knock me out until doses of at least 40mg, and i could fight it in doses up to 80mg. however i would always wake up again in an hour or so when i took them with no intention of sleeping. be careful with these though because i decided to record myself to see what happens after i passed out, cuz i'd usually wake up in different clothes or i'd have done something i didn't remember doing before i passed out. when i watched the video i hit a point 15-20 minutes in where i got real still, dunno if i was reading or sleeping cuz i was at my computer, but i was upright. then all of a sudden i got up and grabbed like 50 gel pens in my hands and then proceeded to pull the caps off with my teeth and scribble all over my mouse pad and desk, then fell asleep on it after dancing around my room to late night talk radio. woke up a few hours later and didn't even remember the experiment until i looked in the mirror and saw half a multicolored glitter planet on the side of my face lol..
so be really careful with this stuff, the conscious high is like being in a dream but not realizing, and your decision making processes and logic take the backseat for sure. and if you're gonna do it make sure you're not anywhere you could wander off somewhere you shouldn't in your sleep.

Idk bout generics, but brand name 12.5mg ambien CR had 2 haalves, one was IR formulation to get u to sleep and the other half/layer was ER formulation to keep ou asleep. If you grind it all into a fine powder you'll sufficiently defeat the CR aspect.

Ambien works great if you take it in bed 1/ lights off and eyes closed. But it kicks in so quick and has such a small theraputic window, if u take it even while getting ready for bed, ull likely just get high/loopy/trip and not sleep. Or at least get loopy for a while b4 falling asleep but def won't get knocked out like u may have been hoping for

Yeah a lot of people don't understand how sleeping medication should be used. So many people think that they just pop them as they get ready for bed and continue doing shit until the pill KO's them.... If I had a nickel for every time I heard that.... But that's not how sleeping medication works, it's not going to knock you out unless you're actually in bed with your eyes closed trying to sleep.

I mean, even the most hardcore sleep meds like triazolam require some effort on your part.

Hmm that's strange. The times i've taken zopiclone - 10 mins or so later i'll be walking up the stairs and bumping into walls i'd be so anesthetized. Really is like i've been hit by a bus; knocks me right out.
In comparison to benzo's for me anyway, z drugs do the absolute job of putting me to sleep + putting me to sleep only.

this is definitely true for GABAergics, but other sleep meds i've taken like quetiapine, chlorprothixine or prothipendyl just knock you senseless suddenly and all you want to do is lay down. prothipendyl, which is a neuroleptic and widely used in germany, is especially unpleasant, but it'll make you sleep in no time.
i don't know why z-drugs are so widely used, they aren't even that effective in my opinion. temazepam or midazolam in the right dosage will make me sleep like a baby, while i find zopiclone especially shitty. the few times i had it i layed in bed, waiting for the drug to take hold, and i felt weirder and confused after a while, but couldn't sleep until i took 30mgs or so.

i wish sleep meds actually knocked you out. for god sakes opiates are better sleep meds than real sleep meds. it's ridiculous.
