I got prescribed Ambien for insomnia which I suffer from terribly. I hear alot about people tripping on Ambien and likening it to DXM and what not. But it's function chemically is very similar to xanax(alprozalam). Is there a dose at which Ambiens effects are like xanax and not trippy? Also..just a side note. I like snorting shit so does anyone have experience with snorting ambien?

Snorting ambien is probably not the best way to go about it. GABA agonists/allosteric modulators usually have poor solublilty - i think Z-drugs are a bit better, but still, oral/sublingual is better.

What i generally hear about ambien is, if you take it and then go to bed and it gets you to sleep, it's fine, but if you don't go to sleep, things get weird.

I'm not sure from whence cometh the weirdness though - though i recall a bit of weirdness from lorazepam, which isn't there with alpraz/phenaz/etiz/clonazepam, and i've read some other reports mentioning that...

Yea, as Azo said, if you take it and then go straight to bed then you shouldn't experience any visual effects.
As far as dose is concerned, taking anymore than 20mg seems to be fruitless as I've never had much in the way of "better effects" from taking more than this.

Ambien is a benzo....so no snorting needed just take orally.

Also, I have heard that ambien BURNS pretty fucking bad.

Do a search on it, ull find many people saying the same.

I guess its just semantics but technically Ambien (Zolpidem) is not a benzo. Its a Z-drug, ie. a Non-Benzodiazepine. It is primarily a hypnotic.

Xanax (Alprazolam) is a benzodiazepine and I would say is not primarily a hypnotic but it does have some hypnotic effects. Xanax, I could be wrong here, is primarily anxiolytic or anti anxiety drug.

The only real way to see if you will have trippy effects from Ambien is to try it out. It affects different people differently. For some people even a small dose will knock them out to sleep whereas for others, myself included, it has little effect at all.

start with a small dose ~10 mg and see how it affects you. However, if you are looking for a Xanax type feeling, my guess is that Ambien is really not what you are looking for. Most people report one of three reactions: 1) put right to sleep; 2) trippy effects; 3) little to no effects at all

maybe a smaller dose ~5mg could have more xanax type effects however

The Ambien brand apparently do burn quite badly indeed yea.
The generic Zolpidem we get over here don't burn too bad at all :)
I likend the pain to snorting Ketamine (just snorted some now actually).

Bring come da wobble! ^_^

^^^ Actually I had the generic brand and they burnt quite badly, while my friends fancy CR's went down pretty smooth.

I actually like ambien when used recreationally more than benzos. Like pretty much said, everyone responds differently. Some people reported trippiness after a single 10mg dose so the only way for you to know is to find out. It took me at around 20-30 for it to occur.

However if you're looking to avoid the trippiness I would suggest maybe using 10-15mg spread throughout the night. This will allow you to feel the effects without trippin. Or maybe it is simply tolerance but that works for me.

If you're looking for a high, zolpidem can be good. It can definitely turn a boring night in, into something somewhat fun. However, you're looking for an alprazolam-like high, and I'm sure everyone on here will tell you that these drugs have very little in common.

I don't know how you define "trippyness", but speaking from my own lexicon I'd say zolpidem has some trippy qualities, but I wouldn't compare the high at all to LSD or Mushrooms. It's a lot less coherent (I'm usually taking doses of ~60mg). If you're into snorting things, it can be done with this substance. Zolpidem is more soluble in water than any benzos are (Don't quote me on this guys, this is from memory). I prefer taking it though, just because it hits you within 15 mins of swallowing as long as your stomach is somewhat empty.

Long in a short guy, don't plan on using your zolpidem for anti-anxiety purposes. Maybe short term, like getting fucked up on them when you have a really bad day, but nothing more. Just like how alprazolam is, you might do some fucked up shit on ambien.

There's not really a sweet-spot for making it like xanax. If you're like most people, 10mgs will make you want to go to sleep bad, and anything above that threshold will really start messing with you. Not a totally bad find though, save em for a rainy day, or use them if you have legitimate insomnia issues.

Ambien is not a benzodiazepine.

Zolpidem has a therapeutic window of ~45-90min after dosing. It is not intended for recreation or for removal of anxiety. Furthermore, the schizophrenia-like side effect of the chemical is not intended be experienced. If you want a drug that is similar to xanax, there is quite a list of benzodiazepines to choose from.

I'm jonesing from being out of my Kpin, so snorting one or two generic 12.5 ER's relieves tension and anxiety for me... much like alcohol would, but without being too fucked up to function. More than that and my computer screen will appear in 3-D and goofy stuff that like, but not so trippy that I'm non functional. And snorting it doesn't make me tired for some reason... nor does it burn too bad.

Taking regular benzo before ambien will remove the trippy part of the effect pretty good in my experience. On the other hand, the trippyness is the best side-effect of the drug.

I know this is an old thread.. but after reading back through it, i would say the post that i have quoted is by far the best best advice offered.

The whole high of ambien is the trippyness, which I don't see you avoiding if you're going for recreation. Also, it burns like a motherfucker if you rail it. Probably one of the most painful things I've snorted.
