hi guys ive got some abien 5mg tablets on me and i was wondering what dosage would be to feel some recreational effects
i have a fairly low tolerance to benzo's
and also is it best to crush the pills and parachute it or just swallow them whole ?
thanks

If you've got a fairly low tolerance to benzos, start with 10mg.

You can either swallow them whole or parachute, Ambien is pretty quick acting either way, although it will be faster if you parachute 'em.

ambien are benzos? i didn't know that.... i had a bottle of 10mg and i suffer from insomnia and i got to the point where i was taking 5-8 just to pass out but i can take 1-2mg of Xanax and goto sleep

oh and i never got no recreational value at all i even took 80mg and tried to pass out and was up for 5 hours or so before i could pass out i didnt trip at all i was surprised after all that i read on it

Ambien is NOT a benzo, but it is cross-tolerant with benzo's because it acts on GABA via potentiation. Ambien binds to the GABA-a receptors, which is the same as benzo's.

To add to the last post, Ambien is a "Z-Drug," generally the first line treatment for sleep problems. It binds to specific GABA receptors, making it cross tolerant with benzos. Z-Drugs are often called "non-benzodiazepines" because of this reason.

Zolpidem is not a benzodiazepine (the word "benzodiazepine" describes a specific chemical structure that the "z-drugs" do not share), but it does bind to the benzodiazepine site on the GABA-a receptor complex (which is distinct from where other depressants, such as barbiturates and ethanol, bind to on the GABA-a complex). Zolpidem is more selective for the α1 subunit of the benzodiazepine site compared to traditional benzos (which tend to be non selective amongst the five α subreceptors IIRC), so it's action is primarily hypnotic with relatively little anxiolytic and muscle relaxant properties.

10mg is a good dose to start with IMO.

I have no benzo tolerance, but I find that Ambien is actually a DECENT anxiolytic. Maybe it is just me, but it really chills me out, and relaxes me nicely. It isn't anything to ride home about, but is still pretty nice.

take like 10-20mgs and try to stay awake for it....its one of the most bizzarre drugs i have ever tried. funny thing is a lot of ppl i know get the same weird effects, like imagining people yelling at them, and having loud things everywhere lol

i swear, ambien is like fucking poison. one should use extreme caution when using it in high doses, it can put you in a daze that could potentially be fatal because of something you might DO while youre under the influence of it. it can put you in a state where you dont really know what youre doing, almost as if youre sleepwalking. death may result, in whatever fashion.

Feeling out lower doses than moving up gradually is the way to go with almost anything. I find zolpidem to be virtually non-recreational compared to benzos. Another thing is some people are way more sensitive to amnesia and strange acting out on zolpidem than other people so its good to keep in mind you could be one of the sensitive ones.

i took 5mg of ambien with no tolerance and tripped alittle. but 10mg would probably be a funner and still safe place to start. but as ive read some things on it(as im sure you have to) that it can be dangerous. you can wake up not remembering what you did and end up you did some crazy stuff.

Ambient / Zolpidem is crazy stuff. I have some generic tabs and have used them to treat my chronic insomnia.

I have had some very strange experiences with it, even at the commonly-prescribed dosages of 5-10mg.

Typically, I've taken it 30 minutes before bed so I can relax and slow my mind down before I hit the bed. It's very fast-acting for an oral drug and within 10 minutes I feel it coming on.

What kind of strange experiences? Here's a few:

1. Caught myself dancing around in my underwear (no music playing) ... but enjoying the weird displaced equilibrium that ambien / zoplidem causes. Also a mild (very mild, I'd say) euphoria.

2. Masturbated for 2 hours. Blanking in and out of consciousness. Waking up naked in front of my computer, not remember what I was doing.

3. Buying hundreds of $$$ worth of crap online. The next day, I check my emails, and I have confirmation emails from Amazon or whatever, saying 'thank you for your order!' What order??? I don't remember buying anything!

4. Taking dozens of weird, surreal pictures of myself with my camera. The next day, I'm looking at the images thinking 'WTF?'

I suppose that's part of the 'fun' of Ambien / zolpidem ... I always laugh at these episodes after the fact. But I've been fortunate that nothing worse has happened.

Moral of the story: like everyone else here, start low. Have a friend around to help watch you, if possible. I think the stories about Ambien-induced amnesia are true.

That is uncommon. Ambien is a selective benzodiazepine and due to its selective binding, Zolpidem has very weak anxiolytic, myorelaxant and anticonvulsant properties but very strong hypnotic properties. Zolpidem binds with high affinity and acts as a full agonist at the α1 containing GABAA receptors, about 10-fold lower affinity for those containing the α2 - and α3 - GABAA receptor subunits, and with no appreciable affinity for α5 subunit containing receptors.

I couldn't imagine taking it during the day to relieve my anxiety, I'd just trip out and then when that wears off I just become really pissy. I'd just be feeling weird during the day. But that's just me. I have heard of some people on here who have said that they get anxiety relief from Ambien.

Ambien has weak hypnotic properties, it just selectively binds to the alpha1 subunit, but it has weak activity at that subunit. Unlike drugs like triazolam, temazepam, or even diazepam and alprazolam.

EDIT: If you go here, you'll find the international prescribing guidelines for insomnia.

For some it is a strong amnesiac, many people on here talk about forgetting things the following day after a crazy night on them. I was able to take my Temazepam, even at 150mg, without forgetting anything the following day. Just a little groggy. But if I take 40mg of Ambien I will have a hard time recalling what happened the previous night. Not completely blacking out, but damn well near. Weird thing is I didn't feel like I had much of a tolerance to the Z-Drugs while taking 8mg Clonazepam/60mg Temazepam daily. It almost got me to sleep as well as taking higher doses of benzodiazepines. Almost.

I blacked out plugging 20mg of Ambien, dropped down to plugging 15mg, blacked out again. I guess it is just incredibly effective for me? I don't think I did anything stupid, I mean I just woke up in my bed. I can tell I clearly blacked out though because I forgot to lock my house door etc, left the sliding glass door open, never remembered ever going to bed. It's scary shit, I could have done anything in that blackout, luckily I guess I have enough common sense when blacked out just to go to bed? I'm done trying to experience it, or maybe I should just take it orally :/?

I can black out from Ambien much easier than I can with any of the hypnotic benzodiazepines so you aren't alone. Ambien may be weaker than benzodiazepines but I find it has more powerful amnesiac properties. Or maybe not because usually the reason I black out from Ambien is because its a weaker hypnotic and I continue to take more and more to get to sleep until I take too much. I blackout from benzodiazepines generally because I don't know I've taken too much (duh). Ambien I'm kinda asking for it and don't realize.

thanks for the explanation of class of ambien guys i didn't think it was a benzo for one cuz of how it effects me

but to all the people who take it and trip and see and hear shit..wow thats crazy i took high doses just to try to sleep and 1. i ended up being awake for 5 hours after taking it til i could finally pass out 2. i didn't trip or hear anything i didn't see nothing i just felt mad groggy and i couldn't sleep i layed around for a few hours trying to sleep and it didn't happen so i figured i would at least go walk around and see if i could have any kind of a high or what ever u wanna call it ...nope nothing i guess it reacts differently to certain peoples body chemistry
